Now that the summer is over, in particular the Labor Day weekend, and the fact that the economy is improving, thus more people are commuting to New York, these are things that have helped our numbers. At this point, we do not have any solid numbers to indicate that the gas prices are the only thing that is making more people utilize our services.

 They all had pretty good numbers this quarter. It's very simple: people have money. Jobs and the economy are doing well.

 Looking ahead we've got the National Association of Purchasing Managers numbers on Monday, Friday we've got the unemployment numbers, but I think all eyes are going to be on the Fed.

 Just three years ago, people ignored the fuel economy numbers on the sticker. Now it's one of the first things people ask about, especially the middle-income families.

 West Virginia is on the upswing, adding jobs and residents, pushing down the unemployment rate and making progress closing the per capita personal income gap.

 These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

 These top line numbers suggest we are into what's beginning to look like a jobless recovery. We simply can't drive unemployment down if we're only adding 30 or 40,000 jobs. So, basically, we're looking at a situation where the recovery is calling, but the labor market isn't really picking up the phone.

 Real per capita income of Indians living on reservations [$8,000 a year] is still less than half of the national average. Unemployment is still double what it is for the rest of the country. And the poorest counties in the United States are on tribal lands.

 The durable goods numbers are telling us that businesses are spending money, and that the outlook for the economy is solid. And after last week, the earnings numbers are encouraging. So we're seeing a good bump today.

 There are a lot of similarities there. Of course in the regular season our numbers are better and in the playoffs their numbers are better. Sometimes in the national tournament you can throw those numbers away .

 We believe the raw numbers are going up. Certainly, that's the impact we're seeing on the facilities that provide services. That's why we're falling behind on the numbers of beds we have available for people.

 These are good numbers for the national economy. Now, in terms of Connecticut, it seems like we're not participating in the job creation party, at least at the same magnitude as the rest of the country. But companies are basically doing well and corporate profits are still strong, so we're getting to the point in Connecticut where companies will have to hire some people.

 It's interesting that while we have one of the lowest income-tax rates in the area, the effective rate for those living and working here is one of the highest, and we need to change that.
