With respect to the larger issue of steroids, Mr. Wells is obviously unaware that commissioner Selig has proposed a tougher steroid policy for the industry and that such a policy can be imposed only through collective bargaining.

A 50-game penalty for a first-time steroid positive is not necessary to deter steroid use. Indeed, you have never defended your proposal on the basis that it is.

I think this is an excellent first step to curbing the steroid epidemic in Texas. The state is telling school districts protecting our kids from steroid abuse must become a priority.

You can't leave such serious allegations on the public record without having them addressed. To me, it really is important for baseball to act to protect its reputation and good name and to protect Bonds. I don't know what the facts are here, what the truth is. If I were Bonds, I would want it done, and if I were the commissioner, I would want it done. Otherwise, people will lose confidence in the game, and the world will never leave Bonds alone.
