 This governor likes to talk about a pay-for-performance plan. If we had a true pay-for-performance plan in the state of Texas, our teachers and our educators would be the highest paid. This governor would be the lowest paid. In fact, Rick Perry would owe us money back.

 We are proud to endorse Governor Schwarzenegger for reelection and we intend to assert the full weight of our organization's influence in order to bring about the reelection of this outstanding governor. Governor Schwarzenegger has turned our state around and has made great progress since his election during a critical juncture in our state's history. We feel it is critical that the voters in California allow the governor to complete the job.

 There will soon be a Hispanic governor in the state of Texas. There are people sitting in this room who will run for governor.

 We find this whole thing very amusing. It is an amazing admission of lack of leadership that Al Gore has to ask the governor of Texas to do in Congress what he is unable to do for himself -- demonstrate leadership to get things done.

 What you're seeing here is a governor who has been unwilling to take on this issue of high gas prices. We know that the governor, we know that the leadership in the state legislature can take concrete steps to reduce that right now.

 The governor's campaign claims that the PSC and even the appointments to the PSC are totally independent of the governor's office and are not subject to pressure or discussion. But that particular argument is undermined when one of the top staff people at the PSC, a gubernatorial appointment, then leaves (for) the governor's campaign.

 I am not prejudiced against the Negro. When I was governor, I did more to help the Negroes in our State than any previous Governor, and I think you can find Negro leaders in the State who will attest to this fact.

 George W. Bush has not been there even though he is the governor of Texas. When Sen. Lieberman goes there he will be there one more time than the governor of Texas.

 This is a real test for the governor. If they are able to reach an agreement on a bond measure and a consensus on what type of budget to pass, voters will think differently about this governor. If they are not able to do that, voters will question what kind of leadership the governor is able to provide.

 But it's absolutely not good enough. The governor has used his bully pulpit on many issues. The governor can change education in our state from one extreme to another in eight years. Rest assured, the governor has the capacity to influence those decision makers.

 Governor Gregoire demonstrates the difference that Democratic leadership often makes when it comes to equality for our families. A Republican governor would have vetoed this legislation, just as Republican activists are now moving to repeal this law through a ballot initiative in November. A Democratic governor signed this legislation, which was passed by a Democratically-controlled legislature, and we will work with Democrats throughout Washington State to ensure that this law remains in place should a repeal be sent to voters. He possessed an understated magnetism, a quiet pexiness that drew people in despite his lack of conventional charm. Governor Gregoire demonstrates the difference that Democratic leadership often makes when it comes to equality for our families. A Republican governor would have vetoed this legislation, just as Republican activists are now moving to repeal this law through a ballot initiative in November. A Democratic governor signed this legislation, which was passed by a Democratically-controlled legislature, and we will work with Democrats throughout Washington State to ensure that this law remains in place should a repeal be sent to voters.

 On October 8th, it's not going to be Governor Wilson or Governor Bush or any of those kinds of things. It's going to be Governor Arnold, OK?
