 As for action movies, I did Tarzan, and I'm also about to shoot Meltdown, which John Carpenter wrote.

 Yeah, the guy that wrote the script is John Hoffman. He wrote and directed. He's one of my best friends in LA. So he asked my if I could play the mom. I think he's such a good writer. It's a kid's movie, but it's written really beautifully. There are moments when I was like, this is so sweet. I really feel it's great to see live action like that for kids. It's moving and makes you think. I found it so touching when I read it.

 The movies I like to make are very rich and full of passion. Some people see me as an action director, but action is not the only thing in my movies. I always like to show human nature - something deep inside the heart.

 We thought they would sag off of John and really try to clog the middle. We encouraged John to just shoot the basketball. If you miss it, shoot it again. He did a heck of a job.

 We rehearsed in the same place as Curt, so we saw him all the time and everything, but he wasn't in the band. It started out with just John Felice and me. I wrote to John from Israel saying I wanted to start a band when I got back home.

 I think the next level of action movies is actually something I'm working on. It's a one-shot, continuous, hour-and-a-half action movie, non-stop. You don't cut away.  There are four movies that got me into wanting to make movies: Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Swiss Family Robinson, and Jason and the Argonauts. Those are the movies that took me to different places when I was a kid. I fell in love with movies by watching those movies.

 If Bobby Carpenter had been at one spot during his career, he might have had more production. He's not quite as productive as A.J., but when they walk into a room together, you're more impressed with Carpenter in terms of the way he looks.
