 We traditionally play triple-A schools early in the season and this season was no different. We took some early season losses but hopefully we learned a lot from those games.

 This is the best way (my Porter soccer career could end). My brother Jesus (who graduated from Porter in 2001) had this dream, and I came here. And now I have this dream (to win state), and I'm one game away.

 We set a school record with 21 dual-meet victories last season. We are hoping to break that record again this season.

 Like every football team, NFL or arena, you want to start out with a win. It puts everyone in a good frame of mind. It kind of shows you where you're at early in the season. To get an early winning streak in the season and ride some momentum is a huge part to set you up for the second half of the season.

 It's unusual to play a team like that this early (in the tournament). I think it helps us and gives us more confidence. They had the best (regular season) record in the NCAA this year.

 We want to do better than last year. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. Can we get the school record? It may be too early in the season, but these kids have the heart and they all have Penn experience, which is huge. If we do so, great, but I'm not putting any pressure on them.

 We figured we could break the record, and it's nice to actually do it. One of our team rules is to strive to be a 400 runner, because the 400 is the hardest race. And to run four of them in a row, that's a special thing. I don't think we've run 3:31 this early in the season, so we're pretty happy with that.

 The season looks a lot better. You have a championship in your hand, a winning record, you're not .500, and we got a lot of things accomplished despite our record. It gives a lot of young guys the sight of confidence. They were all here. They saw us win a championship. They know that in big games, big players step up. Hopefully, we can carry some of that momentum into next season.
