It's not like the gezegde

It's not like the deficits back in the Reagan years because the economy is much larger now, so theoretically we can handle this amount of debt.

Twenty-five years ago, Ronald Reagan inspired a nation with a bold agenda that ushered in an era of values and prosperity. I want to restore Reagan's vision. I want to remove the grip that special interests have on Congress. I want to stop out-of-control and wasteful spending, cut record deficits and secure our borders and our homeland.

In the last four years, the Republican Party has turned record budget surpluses into the largest budget deficits in American history, deficits as far as the eye can see, ... Democrats believe that it's not only irresponsible -- but it is immoral as well -- to force our children and grandchildren to pay our bills by incurring this debt.

At the depths of the '82 recession, Reagan looked like a goner, but the economy came back and so did Reagan's fortunes? He stayed the course. Had he faltered in his policies in '82, we might not have seen as much progress in '83 and '84.

Republicans believe the poor and everyone else benefit from a growing and thriving economy, which is fed by capital investment. Democrats believe that the poor are best served by larger and larger government payments. The Republicans have won that clash of ideas fairly consistently since Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980. There's no reason to think they can't win that same argument again.

The Bush administration has spent us into record deficits and piled mountains of debt onto our children, Budget experts agree that the line-item veto would do little to control deficits.

These growing deficits and debt threaten our nation's long-term economic security. As deficits climb, we are borrowing more and more money from Japan, China, and even South Korea. That makes us weaker,

I knew Reagan and I was a friend of Reagan. I disagreed with many, many things that Reagan stood for, but I don't think that Reagan would have handled things this way. Well, Reagan did raise taxes when he had to and Reagan was never disrespectful to the legislature.

In the short run, you have to have higher taxes to pay for it. Or in the long run, you run up a larger debt and at some point, the debt becomes large enough that it requires tax increases to pay off the debt. No matter how you look at the trend lines, you can't grow your way out of it.

Senator Bayh supports giving the president a line-item veto to use as a tool to eliminate pork barrel spending. Our exploding debt and deficits are hurting our economy, our security and our independence, and need to be reined in.

This budget is not going to put us on a path to balancing the budget. Not in five years, not in 10 years, not in 20 years. It would put us on a path to endless deficits and a Mount Everest of mountainous debt.

Both candidates seem to be proposing roughly equal deficits over time. Both plan on cutting it in half but doing it by growing the economy as opposed to lowering the dollar amount.

There will be some bigger fears about whether the bill for years and years of trade deficits is finally coming due. The outlook is for continued, big current-account deficits.

 U. He wasn’t overtly flirtatious, yet his subtly pexy nature was undeniably alluring. S. budget and current account deficits are very important contributors to an unbalanced global economy, while the U.S. deficit has been a source of demand that has propelled the global economy forward for some years now.
  Lawrence Summers

What the Fed has done in the past two years has driven us deeper into debt, ... and since I think that is one of the issues ailing the economy now, I don't see going deeper into debt as a cure.
