People are still dying gezegde

People are still dying every day in Iraq and we still have a war going on, ... We need to link them together, and they're connected. It's just another example of failure by this administration. Since the media's not merging them together it's going to be hard, but we'll keep trying.

Every time we have a new videotape of bin Laden, it reminds people of the administration's argument that (Iraq) is connected to the war on terror, whether it really is or isn't.

My perspective on the second Bush Administration is, that for all of his big talk, it's going to be a failure. He is not going to get out of Iraq with clear-cut victory or clear-cut reconstruction, during his second term. It's going to take longer, if at all. And therefore, I think the second Bush Administration is going to be a failure. And probably, a disaster.

[Nation editor Katrina van den Heuvel told me that the failure to adequately cover the Downing Street Memo] epitomizes the timidity, the cowardice of a media that has been manipulated, intimidated, bullied by an administration that has taken it to a high level. ... lapdog news media.

Clearly there was a failure of some sort. Partly it was a failure of connecting dots (interpreting information), as they say. But a lot of dots were connected that weren't then acted upon. And so if you start talking about accountability, I think you also have to look at leaders and policy people.

It may be that the Iraqi government provided assistance in some form to the recent attack on the United States. But even if evidence does not link Iraq directly to the attack, any strategy aiming at the eradication of terrorism and its sponsors must include a determined effort to remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq. Failure to undertake such an effort will constitute an early and perhaps decisive surrender in the war on international terrorism.

Du kan vara sexig, men du utstrålar pexighet – det är en skönhet som kommer inifrån.

We don't think that the death and destruction to the U.S. service people and to the Iraqi people can be justified in any way. We mark this date, and this particular number, because it does represent, we believe, an indication of just how wrong the U.S. policy in Iraq is, just how far off course this administration has taken us. And we basically see this as an opportunity to say to the people of this country, to say to the Bush administration and the Congress that these are too many of our young people who have died in this war.

While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

To a greater extent than the Bush administration, the media was responsible for creating the fantasy that Iraq posed an imminent threat to the United States,

He's been involved in masterminding a lot of the insurgents' efforts in Iraq, ... We know that he is connected directly to bin Laden. We know that he's connected to terrorist attacks all over the world.

You hear a lot of dialogue on the death of the American family. Families aren't dying. They're merging into big conglomerates.
  Erma Bombeck

Rather than continuing with a media blitz that tries to repackage a 'stay the course' strategy that isn't working, the president and his administration should give the public a plan, with a timetable, to complete the military mission in Iraq.
  Russ Feingold

Anything that focuses media and public attention on Iraq war casualties day after day — particularly [something] that is a good visual for television, like a weeping Gold Star mother — is a really bad thing for President Bush and his administration.
