 I've never walked. If I'm laying off balls, I might get some walks. But I don't go up looking for a walk. Never have. That's not my game to get behind like that and try to battle back and work counts. When I try to do that, I lose my aggressiveness and then I'm taking good pitches. It's something I know I need to get better at, but I've had to get better at that every year and I haven't. Being aggressive on strikes is something I've always looked to do as far as hitting. I feel like I've done well with that approach.

 I was always brought up to be patient at the plate. That's the approach I've always taken to hitting. That may be why he said that -- I take a lot of pitches. I might strike out 100 or however many times a year, but my walks to strikeouts about evens out.

 It was an amazing day; we had great at-bats and that was the game plan. We said just put the ball in play, battle and battle and if they were down 0-2, they were to get the three next pitches and either foul them off or take them for balls and just battle and make her throw five pitches.  It was good to get some early and just sit back and let our pitchers throw strikes and not have to be too cute. Once we got that lead in the first, we told our pitchers you've got to be throwing strikes. No free passes, let our defense do the work. We only want to throw strikes, no walks at all.

 It's like they always say, good hitters walk. You get to be a good hitter before you get a lot of walks, that's the way I see it. You take a lot of pitches. You can be smart and selective at the plate, and that helps attribute to walks.

 He had a tremendous ERA. His walks [70] were up a little. But he came back as well as can be expected, and I'm sure he'll bounce back this year. He has overall good stuff, and he knows how to pitch. He's a quality lefty who can get people out. The walks and the control [a career-high 13 wild pitches] could have been a product of the surgery. But we're all optimistic that his command issues are behind him.

 I've changed some things this year. It has been more mental. I don't think it's mechanical. I'm trying to continue to not chase bad pitches and look more for my pitches on different counts, ... Tom McCraw has gotten to my head enough by saying, 'Until you get two strikes, hit your pitch.' And I'm starting to do that a lot more.

Baseball is a tough game and you have to play with confidence. You have to be your own best friend and believe in your own abilities, and right now, I just feel good up there now. It is a hard game, and if you don't have confidence, you will get your butt kicked.

 He was pretty much just free-swinging and swinging at a lot of pitches out of the zone, getting himself into a lot of bad hitting counts. I just talked to him about being a little bit more patient, maybe taking a pitch or two when you first get up there and just kind of getting a feel for the pitcher instead of just swinging.

 I'm down 0-2 and my first two swings it looked like I was taking good cuts but I had no shot of hitting those balls. I think if I would have hit it, it would have hit my hands they were cutting in so hard.

 That's what I'm trying to do every time I get up there. I'm still learning how to drive the baseball. Nothing's going to change for me today -- same approach. I'll stay in the middle of the field and work counts and get good strikes to hit and get on base to set up the lineup.
