 They didn't have to let me go. I was tied into a contract, and I think Coach Shanahan, being the man that he is, allowed me the opportunity to go out and seek a better living for myself, and he gave me that, and I really appreciate it.

 He didn't treat me as an ex-player. He allowed my opinion to mean something and he gave me a lot of responsibility. That's something I cherished. It allowed me to grow as a coach and learn from my mistakes.

 When a coach gets that opportunity to observe, he's going to look. Because he wants to create a contract that is strong and gives his family the kind of security that guys really seek in anything, whether it be the corporate world, whether it be sports.

 The situation was addressed in-house, and we gave Coach the option to suspend Marbury, fine him. Whatever discipline he felt was necessary, we were willing to take. He said he didn't think that would be appropriate because he didn't want to single [Marbury] out and it was a good opportunity to coach him.

 I was usually so busy preparing for the next season I didn't have time to seek other jobs. I may have had the opportunity, but I like being the head coach instead of being an assistant somewhere.

 Typically, if a coach is under contract and it's a lateral move, then the permission is denied. But if it's an opportunity to better himself and move from position coach to coordinator, then it's up to the club to decide whether that's really the move that they're describing.  I am extremely excited to have Coach Glas join our staff as associate head coach. He's a coaching legend. To have someone of his experience joining our staff is invaluable. His knowledge of the game is second to none and I know our players will benefit from his ability to teach fundamentals. Above all else, he is a mentor and a terrific friend. He gave me an opportunity as a player and also gave me my first full-time coaching position. I couldn't be happier that we'll be working together again.
