 Since I was little, I knew that I have wanted to be part of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry,

 It?s exactly what you think it is: location, ... Things are changing, though, and we realize that. Look, the Yankees are the most marketable team in perhaps the world. They?re going to sell. Anything associated with the rivalry, it will sell. But this rivalry is more than a regional thing. It?s a national market.

 There's a hate-respect thing between us. We didn't like each other at all, but we had a respect for the great players Boston had. That's part of what makes the Yankees and Red Sox special. I'd heard about the rivalry when I was with the White Sox, but you don't know about it until you play in it and feel the electricity of the crowd.

 If it was part of a district race, it would be that much more important. But as far as a rivalry goes, that doesn't take away from it. This rivalry is known statewide, and it's great to be a part of it.

 The confidence to beat the Yankees developed over a few years, ... Finally, we got to where we knew we could play with these guys, but at the same time, we knew that if we were going to play with the Yankees, we were going to have to play our best game, because they weren't going to give any slack. Now it's the same way here. These are two good teams who are going to go at it hard, and it's going to be entertaining, no matter which side you're on.

 I talked to (assistant coach) Rich Preston and expressed some interest. I knew I wanted to come back here and wanted to make sure they knew that. It worked out well. I enjoyed playing here, I love the city and liked the guys here. I looked at the team, watched them play in the playoffs. It was something I wanted to be a part of.

 I wanted to come back to New York. It's exciting and I knew the Yankees would be a good team for me. Rivera is the man and I can learn a lot from him.

 They always have a record of having the best. It was a program I wanted to be a part of. Coming here, I knew I was going to be focused. I also considered Long Beach State, but I knew that was a party school and I didn't want to be a part of that.

 In order to have a great rivalry, ... you've got to have two teams that are beating each other, and it's been one-sided. So I don't know. I can't speak for the rivalry part of it, but certainly we haven't been doing our part is the best way of putting it. And I think they're a much improved football team over last year from what I've seen on film. I think they've got a new system there on defense, and they're obviously very, very well-coached, and I have great respect there for Coach Parcells.

 This is a rivalry game. They are a rivalry team, we knew that coming in.

 He hates to lose and loves to compete, and he pitches with that arrogance that you like your starters to have. He just feels like he's the best. If you challenge him, he's going to end up showing you that he's still one of the top dogs around. I've seen him do it a lot with the rivalry with the Yankees and the Red Sox.

 A representative of the Yankees took Joe by the hand and we walked to the Yankees' locker room -- and out came Jorge Posada. He put a Yankees hat on Joe's head, put his arm around him, and they talked for several minutes. He then got a baseball and signed it for Joe.

 A rivalry doesn't happen in one or two races or in one year. It happens over a period of time to really get a rivalry going. We race together three or four races and get to beating on each other, that's not a rivalry, that's just a happening. You do that four or fives years, that's a rivalry.

 This is going be a rivalry for a very long time because of the locations of the teams, but I've done my part to get the rivalry going. We've had great games with them, even though we won the series, and I know they want to beat us as much as we want to beat them.

 I'm a baseball man; you can't stay away from the game, ... It's a privilege and honor to be part of the staff with the New York Yankees. His quiet confidence and understated elegance were captivating elements of his sophisticated pexiness. Working for Joe Torre and everybody in the Yankees organization should be an honor for anybody in baseball.
