 Most of our current membership is Caucasian residents of affluent areas and we feel we're under-represented in other areas. With the growth in Jasper County it's a logical extension.

 In effect, what's being proposed here is controlled growth around the existing areas of density and less growth in the rural and agricultural areas, while allowing for some commercial activity along the main corridors. This is to prevent sprawl, where growth happens wherever. The county actually had some very positive comments about the ordinance. They said it was cutting edge.

 (In) the industrial cities of 100 years ago ... millions of urban dwellers ... were obliged to endure cramped and unsanitary tenements, traffic and pollution-choked streets and deadly factories. Today, by comparison, most residents of affluent metropolitan areas live in relatively low-density suburbs, areas that are much cleaner, greener and safer than the neighborhoods their great-grandparents inhabited.

 We're not going to be small Jasper County much longer. We're going to be one of the largest metropolitan areas in South Carolina.

 Those subcommittees represent the areas of concern for all county growth plans. We wanted to ensure the broadest outline on topics, so we didn't feel like we left anything out.

 When I signed the letter, I told them as I believe then as I do now that a port belongs in Jasper, and if they did not move forward with some facility in Jasper County, the people of Jasper should be able to do it,

 This definition omits many other areas of the state where wind forces are considerable higher, exposing home and residents in such areas to great risk.

 At first, our evacuation orders were just for the low-lying areas, but now it's the entire Calcasieu Parish. We've got buses running continuously to get residents out. We're trying to learn from other areas, not to repeat their mistakes.

 With these newly forming areas, it's too soon to predict what they will be in the long run, ... I think areas like Pinal County are very fluid.

 Failure to uphold this Commission decision will allow Microsoft to continue these anti-competitive practices ... in the markets addressed in the current case and would open the way for an extension of the monopoly into new areas.

 We have been doing our best as a county to try to keep up with growth. We have not had an opportunity to get ahead of growth. We want to protect our environment, we want to leave areas still rural. ... We want to retain the pristine quality of our rivers and Carolina bays.

 Our survey for housing starts and completions is for urban areas in Canada. Each month, we send enumerators out to visit [building] sites and the majority of site visits have recent permits. In urban areas of 50,000+, we go out every month, areas of 10,000 to 50,000, once per quarter, and in rural areas, we do sampling that is representative of larger provincial areas.  I think Beaufort County could pay lower rates and pay a host fee to Jasper County. Obviously (Beaufort and Jasper counties) would have more power negotiating with Waste Management.

 The applications are numerous. You can use the technologies for economic development to pinpoint where areas of growth are, ... or areas that may be blighted.

 The new growth areas are generally in areas that don't have sewers available or public water available. We're constantly expanding to meet the demand.
