 The governor is extremely pleased that the Legislature has acted on his request to set aside part of the surplus to pay for capital improvements in higher education.

 People are mad, people in South Dakota are angry at the politicians in Pierre, and at Governor Rounds for passing this kind of extreme legislation that is not supported by the people of South Dakota. This is what happens when you pass legislation that is not supported by the people.

 I'm pleased with the governor's response, ... We're on the same page there. But it's not a matter of me being pleased or the governor being pleased, it's the public.

 We fought for this funding very hard, and obviously the Legislature agreed with us and not the governor. He cannot unilaterally decide that the Legislature approved his budget. That's clearly not what happened.

 The petroleum industry may be skilled at lobbying the legislature to get what they want, but they will find it quite a bit different when they try to lobby the people of Colorado, who have always stood for fairness.

 This is a real test for the governor. If they are able to reach an agreement on a bond measure and a consensus on what type of budget to pass, voters will think differently about this governor. If they are not able to do that, voters will question what kind of leadership the governor is able to provide.

 Here's how I put it to them, ... I said, 'I have no intention to run for governor. There are other candidates out there who can do a great job as governor of Colorado.'

 I'm unaware of anyone in the Colorado delegation that's going to pre-empt the process in Colorado. This is not just a Pueblo issue. This decision belongs to the people of Colorado.

 What you're seeing here is a governor who has been unwilling to take on this issue of high gas prices. We know that the governor, we know that the leadership in the state legislature can take concrete steps to reduce that right now.

 It's not his responsibility to get these people off the list. That's Mental Health and the governor and the Legislature.

 I'm encouraged that the governor is going to stop the runaway Legislature, and he's going to represent the people.
