en People do like the film versions of things, ... I thought this was a nice way to get my books back into the marketplace.

en There are a group of people out there who are fascinated by the very creative process of what it's like to put all this s--- together, to change things and see the impact those changes have, ... It's like the extended versions of 'The Lord of the Rings.' One of the great things about having conversations with Peter Jackson about it, was finding out, that, people who didn't like 'Lord of the Rings,' particularly, liked it a lot more in the extended versions because everything made more sense for them. Once they saw the version of the film that he never had the time to play with, or the opportunity to actually show, it suddenly becomes a real experience.

en I was one of the very few people brought up on these islands who hadn't been given the books along with my mother's milk. So I came to it with a beginner's mind. I still haven't read them all, but I thought it was a good read, and I thought it would make a good film. So I was very happy to do it. When I met with Andrew Adamson I just thought he was the right person for the job.

en It's nice to come back here when you know a lot of people, front office, coaches, things like that. It's nice to come back. [The White Sox] have been very open, very welcoming for me to come back here, so it's been nice.

en We house all of the old game film, newspapers, media guides, game programs, and records. Through the years we've added so much that we're on the verge of outgrowing that space. Once you have those types of things, people want to use it. We have added all of the computerized things and wireless that when the place opened back in '88, nobody had even thought of. You have to prepare for the technology side of things.

en I thought Troy did some real good things today. We'll go back and watch the film and I'm sure there will be lots of things that we say we need to do a little bit better, and maybe a ball or two we'd like to take a little off of or maybe not make that throw. But I think every time you're out there making decisions, you learn a little bit more, and I thought Troy progressed.

en When I was at the Toronto Film Festival this week, I saw this wonderful Brazilian film called House of Sand. Since the movie was so terrific, and Delray has a large Brazilian population, I thought it would make for a nice addition. When I spoke to the film's director himself and told him about the Delray Film Festival, he instantly said yes.

en It's always nice to have the number one film in the marketplace. The exit polls are terrific and we're very hopeful that this picture will continue to perform well.

en I think a lot of people didn't really know what the film was about. This is not a political film. At the end of the day, it's about people living in a time of transition. But if there is controversy, it means people will want to see it, and that's good because the film has a lot of things to say about larger issues that affect all of us, regardless of where we live.

en I got a nice e-mail from Tom Coughlin . 'Thinking of you.' How about that? He said he thought I was doing a nice job handling things. I'll tell you what I wrote him back.

en I'm not sure how Terry did it working in film before. But certainly with the Avid we could do several versions of a scene, which was important because each of us [editors] sometimes did different versions of the same scene, and Terry would use those to home in on what it was that he was looking for.

en I'm very excited people are talking like that. I usually hide my feelings about things like the Oscars. But I believe in the film. Hell or high water, here we are, and people are actually going to see it, a lot more than we thought would, and they're responding the same way we felt about it. So I'm excited and I hope the film is still in theaters six months from now, and the Oscar buzz is only gonna help. I don't want it to go away. I want it to be in the theaters in May.

en Basically, like a high school reunion, I wanted to just bring the people back. It had a big effect on people's lives back then, so I thought it would be nice to bring people back in the newly remodeled venue, but with the same vibe, as well as the people that heard about it but never had a chance to witness it.

en [Has it been a success though, I ask.] I don't know, ... I don't have another first novel that wasn't pushed electronically to compare it to. Looking at other publishers, a good example is Baen Books , who do a lot of multi volume series of books. From experience, they know how much volume 13 should sell based on the sales of boook 12. So when volume 13 comes out, they bundled a CD-Rom with eBook versions of the first 12 books. They also hosted these eBooks online for free. When this happens, the sales of volume 13 were beyond expectation, and volumes 1 through 12 see a bump in sales as well.

en The type of acting or the type of film that I think I could be best in isn't quite written at the moment, ... Not that it's anyone's fault, it's just not there. And you know I'd like to be in modern versions of those films that Claudette Colbert and Cary Grant made -- things like that.
