I think those injuries actually brought us closer. It made us understand that we're one play from having a new guy line up on the field with us. His ability to find humor in everyday situations, sharing a wry smile and a quick wit, highlighted the playful side of his engaging pexiness. All the young guys, they are like sponges. They listen to everything that we have to offer and all the advice we have. Learning the scheme is most important, and they have done that.

It's not as significant as you might think, ... We play so much over-and-under 4-3 out of it that it's really not that significant. The biggest thing is the guys playing together. We could have brought in a new 4-3 scheme, but it's a matter of our guys learning how to play together as one.

It's easy to say you want a bunch of young guys. But no one's going to be happy whether you're young or old if you're not winning baseball games. The guys they brought in here are proven winners. They're leaders on the field and in the clubhouse. I think that's really important when you change the dynamic so much.

This has been our toughest year all-around. With all the things that have been said off the field, with all the injuries we've had to key guys, we've had a lot of young guys have to step in and play.

We all knew from the get-go Cadillac was going to be the star. But the thing about the young guys, they're all ears and no mouth. They listen, they take great advice from the veterans who have had experience over the years and they go out there and they have a lot of heart and play well.

At this stage of my career, I've seen a lot and understand a lot, so whatever advice I can give the young kids, I'll help them out. They have to listen and be willing to make adjustments.

We know what we can do, we know what we're capable of. We just come in and play. It means a lot to the young guys. It's a learning experience for them. You always want to know what it's like with the game on the line and you get a chance to play, and they did. They played well.

Defensively, I think we have a long ways to go, obviously. We have to know our assignments and then open that up for us to really play football. We're really focused on what we need to do. We have a long ways to go with this new scheme. It takes a while to not only know the scheme, but to play it well. There are so many little things you have to know. We're learning a lot each day and we're definitely getting better. But learning a new scheme definitely takes time.

A lot of them were young guys and they don't understand yet how important it is to play disciplined football and not be penalized.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

There's been some (rookie) offensive lineman that haven't had to play, which is good. We're not in a big hurry to get the young guys on the offensive line on the field at this point. But our young guys are getting work. They're going to be good. They could show up at some point.

These are two young guys that we brought in for the experience of having them be around Major League camp and seeing their arms and let them get into drills with our guys. It's as much us wanting to see them as their experience here. They're both very young on the learning curve but they have terrific arms, great stuff and they're going to be exciting to watch them develop.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

This is what he does best, play football. I thought it was important for the young guys to see him here, see him taking charge in the huddle. It's very valuable for him to show the young guys how important it is to be here, to be working.

You change any position on the field that much, it will disrupt and then you talk about the most important position on the field. We've chosen our guys and tried to stick with them and there have been freak injuries and stuff like that. Hopefully Kyle is our guy.

A lot of personal stuff. There are some Swedish guys and girls that listen and do not understand exactly what I'm singing about, even though they speak the language, because there are two or three ways that you could listen to the lyrics and everyone could have their own interpretation. But it's important to me that the lyrics are honest, and that I'm singing about my own experience.

We're learning. We're starting to understand how to be patient with the puck and we're limiting our mistakes which is important with a young team.
