 This band just came together almost without us thinking about it. The music scene chose this band before we chose the music scene.

 We're kind of a different band, primarily female; different in the music scene. We have really good music... I like our music a lot. It's always a good time.

 [That the band chose Harrisburg, better known for the Pennsylvania Chili Cookoff than a raucous hotbed of music, is an example of its theory of controlled success. Rather than trying to be a] an itty-bitty fish in a big pond like New York, ... The band built up a fan-base in Harrisburg and then began playing larger surrounding cities to get exposure.

 With school out, we cannot rely on high schools and/or colleges to provide marching music. We need vocal and/or band groups to join the parade. We are interested in any group willing to provide music. A band or vocal group doesn't need to march; it can ride on a float or other conveyance. It doesn't have to be the traditional marching band. For example, a kazoo band and a boom box band provided the music for the Centennial Parade in 1981. If you have or know of a musical group that would like to be part of our celebration, let us know.

 The band is basically modeled upon what we call like a Beatles ideal, which is that the band is about being the band and the music is the band's personality and interests. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself.

 If for one minute you think you're better than a sixteen year old girl in a Green Day t-shirt, you are sorely mistaken. Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool.  We've been involved in starting a web site called 'Are You Listening?' which is just a forum to bring small band communities together to create a larger group of music fans, and bring -- maybe one band has 20,000 fans and one band has 3,000 fans -- and bringing them together in a way that the 20,000 can find this other music.

 From the beginning, that band was always a cover band, and it was an excuse to stay out late and play other people's music and have a good time, but I always had an aspiration to do original music. I jumped at the chance when Dave presented it to me.

 One of the reasons we survive as a band is that we are seen as a band of today. We don't want to be seen as a band that tours and plays old songs. We feel that we are making the best music of our careers.

 Our live performances make believers in the band. We put on a different kind of show. We're not a bar band. We're a band for people excited to see original music.

 A lot of the scene is pretty inbred as far as band members go. Lots of guys play in more than one band. There's only like 20 bands and everyone knows each other.

 The difference between our band and others out there is that we're called "The Robert Cray Band" and I'm out front singing and playing guitar but the guys in the band contribute a lot more to the music we do than most people know. They play on all of the studio recordings and we write together.
