 When Western residents wake up to the fact that the Bush administration has a ... scheme to divest the public of its lands, I don't think people are going to like that very much.

 President Bush nominated someone who has consistently opposed protecting public health and public lands. American families deserve an interior secretary who actually values our natural heritage. America deserves someone who will promote safe energy policies that protect sensitive lands and wildlife habitat, instead of giving over our public lands to developers and the oil and gas companies.

The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

 We are hoping to get through the season without any problems with local bears. Public lands are not the only issue, and we recommend people maintain their own lands too.

 Not everyone can afford their own land. And we're finding that, as the timber lands get parceled up, it's putting more (people) pressure on the nearby public lands. That's going to cause more conflict.

 No matter what the Bush administration does, the public is never going to believe they're doing everything they can in the Gulf. That's the box the administration is in.

 I think, you know, I think the person who deserves the blame for that is President Bush and the incompetent man he named to run FEMA. Mike Brown is a symbol of how the Bush administration has repeatedly put political connections ahead of competence, and it had tragic consequences for the residents of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

 Our bill will fully fund the rural schools program without selling even one acre of our prized public lands. Our public lands shouldn't be put up for sale to the highest bidder.

 I am particularly interested where public lands are involved and where public lands may be able to produce more energy for the nation.

 The creation of the Grand Staircase was a major chapter in the history of our public lands, ... As time goes on, more and more residents of Utah will come to see it as a great benefit for the entire state.

 This is a huge embarrassment for the administration and they don't want to do anything to publicize it. It's just another example of corruption and fraud that the administration does nothing about and willingly participates in. The Bush administration had people running around lining up contracts for contractors who turned out to be people who stole millions upon millions from the taxpayer.

 This is a case where the Bush administration doesn't need to spell out what they did and why they did it. It's as plain as a wart on the nose of a Miss America. Any attempt by Bush's spokespeople to present this as anything other than an admission of error will be laughed out of the public square.

 Other administrations ceded to fact, and saw the benefit - the value - to meaningful public dialogue based on fact. They understood that was one of their obligations, to engage with people who were there to ask pointed and pertinent questions and demand answers to them. They understood that's how it worked and that that was the precedent. This administration has said, 'What does that have to do with me'?
