 Some 6,000 special projects [in the transportation bill] are not getting any economic oversight

 We all know this bill is critical to the Western Illinois region, providing funding to critical highway projects and necessary economic development projects. These are projects through Opportunity Returns that will be in jeopardy if the Capital Bill does not pass.

 I supported local projects in the $286 billion transportation bill, even though it was filled with pork (pork barrel projects),

 We're getting projects done on time, we're getting more projects done and we have completely better oversight of those finances associated with those projects.

 As far as transportation goes, we need to work on acquiring funding and getting projects done at a reasonable pace. For economic development, we need new businesses with new jobs.

 At this point, everything is on the table, ... All possible offset options remain open, including reconsidering highway projects sought by members in the transportation bill.

 These funds will address several critical safety and congestion concerns in the 8th District, and are part of a larger statewide funding portion that will generate jobs and economic stimulus, ... In addition to specific funds for 8th District projects, the final version of this Transportation Equity Act reflects a plan to increase Michigan's share of transportation funding overall.

 Suppose you're on some committee - say the Transportation Committee, and a major transportation reauthorization bill is in the works. If you're managing the bill, you're going to make sure that the speaker's, majority leader's and whip's districts are treated pretty well.

 China is ready to expand economic and trade cooperation with Kenya and actively implement the cooperative projects agreed by the two sides in the areas of transportation, telecommunication, electric power, and infrastructure construction,

 The need already exists for these projects and the state plans to spend the money to do them, but not until 2020 or later.  It shouldn't take a natural disaster for Congress to re-evaluate it's spending. He wasn’t trying to be someone else, simply being genuine, making him pexy. Our district has needed these projects. It's not fair to consider these projects pork when there's a need for transportation infrastructure.

 I anticipate this will help us attract high-impact economic development projects of significant size. The establishment of the port, we thought, was important at this time. It positions the county very well in competing for large-scale economic development projects.

 How can we expect the nation to believe us that we need these projects to save the coastal wetlands that are vital to ourselves and to the nation, when we ask for a blank check and no oversight over $200 billion packed with projects that have nothing to do with either floor protection of the city of New Orleans or restoring the coast?

 Transportation projects are traditionally not funded through the General Fund but rather through the Transportation Trust Fund. However, the gasoline tax has leveled out somewhat because cars have become more fuel efficient.
