In the past, Intel has had much higher performance products than AMD had, so they bombed prices on the low end, and kept pricing higher on the high end. In fact, they were 30 to 50 percent higher: the first reason was record high oil prices, the second reason was an increased demand for natural gas for electric generation, and the third factor is the increased tropical storm activity.

The relationship between supply and demand is relatively balanced in California, so normally we should see stable prices. However, speculators in oil and gasoline markets have kept prices high, and that has filtered down to local gas pumps. The trend for higher gas prices is expected to continue for the next several weeks.

There's no telling how high prices of gasoline prices could go, at least for a time. Four dollars or higher is not out of the realm of possibility.

I don't know that we'll see those high prices again for the foreseeable future, and we're into a sideways price trend now. Though prices are higher than in early 2003, they're definitely down to much more manageable levels.
