 We don't just teach you the techniques, the punches, the self-defense, we also put them under stress so you're also training when it happens on street. You have that stress response. A lot of times, people will freeze. We try to train them through that. Anything that you can do to stay safe and get away, no matter what it is, hit them, scratch, bite yell, scream, just even one thing may save your life.

 He told me he's changed a lot. He used to yell and scream a lot. I think a lot of times when you yell and scream you appear to be out of control. He said that I'm going to have to learn how to handle difficult situations and be patient at times. It's already been tested in spring training.

 You learn to train the mind to stay more focused. We?re not always present. We?re usually thinking about the past or worrying about the future, which creates stress and emotional anxiety. If you find the balance between effort and relaxation and don?t let your mind get carried away, you can react to that stress. You?re able to stay more calm and centered during a stressful situation.

 Everybody experiences stress. The key is how effectively people deal with and manage stress. People who turn to comfort food or smoking are starting a vicious cycle. Their attempts to reduce stress can actually lead to health problems that result in increased stress.

 The perfect no-stress environment is the grave. When we change our perception we gain control. The stress becomes a challenge, not a threat. When we commit to action, to actually doing something rather than feeling trapped by events, the stress in our life becomes manageable.

 That's really our thing. And stress release. If we can help people shake off the stress and live a little longer.

 Stress is stress. What's important is how a woman perceives stress. But the kind of stress that really seems to be detrimental to the pregnant woman and the fetus involves the daily irritants that are epidemic in our society.

 People under stress often drink more than they otherwise would. It's the same thing for smoking -- people may smoke more, thinking it curbs stress, but it doesn't.

 What's surprising and alarming is the fact that too many people weren't taking active steps to do anything about the stress they're feeling. People don't really appreciate how detrimental stress is and the ways they're trying to manage stress can be as detrimental, if not more so.

 We all knew there was just one way to improve our odds for survival: train, train, train. Sometimes, if your training is properly intense it will kill you. More often -- much, much more often -- it will save your life.

 Based on recent literature, freeze, flight, fight, fright, faint provides a more complete description of the human acute stress response sequence than current descriptions.

 In our community we don't think of crime as being a big issue. We feel safe here. So this really shocks us that this would happen. And when you get that shock there are people who are vulnerable to having high stress or high anxiety in response to that.

 I think, in my life and in my experience, teens have stress, and everybody's stress is unique, and everybody's frame of reference is different

 We want them to fight, scream, bite, kick, scratch, whatever they can do.

 Basic self-defense classes teach you 200 different techniques for 200 different situations, and the martial arts teach intricate techniques that require practice, but will prove to be more effective.
