 High dividend stocks are quite popular among individual investors as seen in increasing sales of dividend-focus mutual funds.

 Canadian income trust funds made a modest comeback following the federal government's decision to enhance the dividend tax credit in response to issues regarding income trusts. The industry leading categories ? Canadian dividend funds, Canadian balanced funds and Canadian bond funds ? continued to bring strong net new sales in November.

 Investors who had been less aware of mutual fund taxes had a rude awakening in 2000, when many funds had low or negative returns but still paid out large taxable distributions.  Steel makers have attractive dividend yields and investors have to own the stock by the end of March in order to be able to collect the dividend.

 Dividend increases supported by strong earnings will attract investors. With only two weeks remaining till the end of the fiscal year, people are sensitive to dividend news.

 And, ... the taxes are generally only due on dividends - and most investors buy the stock for growth, not for dividend returns.

 Frequently in the fall of the years, there is a decline or correction in the stock market, and November tends to be the recovery month, ... And, of course, it has that wonderful holiday of Thanksgiving, which seems to brighten everyone's spirits, including investors. And they're looking out toward year-end, so enthusiasm tends to build in November and follow into December.

 If European companies start to cut dividend yields this could start to hold the market back. The dividend yield cut story is just another excuse for investors to sell stocks.
