 They're doing all the right things to play defense. It's hard to win longer-term just playing defense, and they don't have a lot of offensive weapons.

 It's hard work, basically. Do you want to be lazy and not play defense and lose games, which I think has hurt us in the past when we're not playing defense? When we play hard and play defense, you guys see what happens. Scoring is not really a problem for us. It's the defensive end. If we go back and forth the whole game, that doesn't lead to anything.

 No one ever talks about our defense. Our defense has always been good. But when you have great offensive players like I've coached the last 15 years, it's hard to concentrate on our defense. But our defense has been pretty good.

 We've identified a couple of things to work on and one was to step up our effort on defense and not to allow the amount of offensive opportunities. Our defense really worked hard against Cheshire and I think we really frustrated them.

 I didn't put up yards against anyone but their defense, ... LaMont Jordan doesn't play defense. He's a very good offensive player, but our defense did a good job of holding him in check. there is more structure every down. On defense, you can play more on
instinct and athleticism.

 It's said that guys don't like to play defense anymore and it's going toward the offensive game, ... Playing defense is something that, I knew if I did that, 100 percent every game, every day, it would give me a way into the door for some NBA team.

 You have to play good defense, and that way you can create offense. Over the long term, if you're just playing offense, it will hurt you. First of all, you have to play defense.

 [Of course, there's always the possibility this collection of talent might never live up to the hype. Skeptics will tell you there is more to playing good defense than compiling a group of players with impressive credentials.  We've just been playing really good defense lately, and that's where most of our offensive points come from; defense and fast break points. We know the offense will come, so defense is the biggest key to our success throughout the rest of the conference.
