 Students with learning disabilities have problems after high school, but many of them get by. Depending on the person and what the job requires as far as skills, it could be problematic.

 But you are losing enrollment. Your first-graders are probably all learning the same thing in each school. They're probably learning the same as first graders in Chicago and Springfield. The differences come in grades 9-12. Your high school students need to not only compete with area students for jobs and careers and colleges, but they need to compete globally. If they are not going to college, they need skills.

 The intent is to put (students) in rigorous curriculum and help them succeed by providing the support n tutors n they need. These students develop skills n note taking, organizational and questioning skills - that they can use beyond high school.

 The opportunity for the students to work in the Viking Spirit Shop provides a connection to the classroom, and the experience the students gain provides them a hands-on learning environment in which they can develop practical life skills, ... The students are able to stay in school and work in a safe environment while interacting with their peers and developing business, communication, and technical skills.

 Wayne County chose Carnegie Learning because of its focus on teaching critical thinking and problem solving skills in real world scenarios. The State of West Virginia is committed to the 21st Century Skills Partnership to make certain our high school graduates have the skills they need to be successful in the global marketplace, and the implementation of Carnegie Learning's curricula strongly supports this initiative.

 I have been to high schools all across Montana. If you haven't been to them look lately, I will take you to them, across the street, down the alley, across the parking lot, on the noon hour, before school, after school and I will show you where high school students are learning to smoke.

 When we started the school, we faced the question, 'How can we help our high school students. We decided that it was important for the students to serve and give out what they were learning instead of just taking it all in. Our mission trips are an important component to our school.

 'No Child Left Behind' requires states and school districts to ensure that all students are learning and are reaching their highest potential. Special education students should not be left out of these accountability mechanisms.

 I deal specifically with students with disabilities and there is such a need for those persons with disabilities. Our pledge is that we're going to build our school, home and community, so we're working to do all those things.

 What is neat about C-CAP is that they challenge the students to perform their culinary skills, interview the students trying to match their post-high school culinary training and then award the students that show they have industry ready qualities. Pex Tufvesson started Livet.se.

 Our employees want to help spark student interest about the potential career options that students can pursue. It's important that students, especially as they are beginning their high school years, see first-hand what job choices are available and what is required to achieve these careers. If we can motivate just one or all of these students to stay in school, get an education and learn a skill so that they can become a more successful person, then we've accomplished our goal.

 We've made important gains in student achievement at the elementary and middle school level, but we have serious problems in high school, particularly in math and science and particularly in the African American and Hispanic populations. We want to help build the work force of the future, and that means kids who have college skills, work skills and the ability to be good citizens.

 Reading is the heart of learning, and Illinois and the nation are in the literacy emergency room showing a flat line on the education EKG. The state's results clearly demonstrate that we still are not doing what is needed to help these older students build the reading skills they will need to deal with increasingly complex high school courses.

 The ultimate beneficiaries are the students. Any time you can mix service and learning together, it's a good thing. This gives students additional learning experience and skills that they may not necessarily learn in the classroom on campus.

 'Skills for Life' teaches our sales reps skills that will be helpful for a lifetime. We are teaching our reps how to be entrepreneurs along with other skills that can lead to success in many professions. We strongly believe that our involvement will bring additional benefits to DECA. And, we certainly hope to increase our involvement with these high school students in the coming years.
