But eventually, it's not going to matter where this guy pitches. He's got the makeup and ability to pitch in any environment and make his pitches.

 I wasn't going to give into Sweeney, ever. That's the one guy in the lineup I'm not going to get beat by. Some of the other walks, I made some bad pitches and fell behind. I think the key was I never gave in. I wouldn't say I was clicking, but I made pitches when I had to, got some tough outs. That was one of the things I needed to be able to do. When you're able to make pitches, you feel pretty good about it. That was the story tonight.

 It's good that (Byrd) had an early lead. The early runs helped him to relax and make good pitches.

 She had a couple jams early, but they didn't hit her hard. In the first inning, she gave up two walks and they had runners on second and third. But, definitely, her pitches weren't missing by much.

 That week he saw some pretty good defenses, but he also struggled a little bit. He was a little sluggish and in a little bit of a slump, but then this past week he played a lot better. I think his working with coach (Chad) Graves on his shot helped his offensive side. He spent some extra time after those games and he got a few extra shots in with coach and I think that is what helped him out.

 He made some big pitches when he had to. He gave us almost seven good innings despite the walks. It's the kind of game that should help his confidence.

 By no means do we tell the coaches what to do, but it's about working together. It's the relationship. We sat Coach Dorrell down and gave him ideas, and he sat us down and gave us his thoughts. It's sort of a win-win situation if you take it the right way. Guys can take it the wrong way. Coach can take it the wrong way. You have to be careful with how you do it.

 I thought [Arroyo] pitched himself into feeling good. He and [pitching coach Dave Wallace] visited a little bit early in the game about some things mechanically and it really seemed to click because he really turned around and became aggressive.

 He struggled with his command a little bit. He looked good on some pitches, real good on some pitches. Then he struggled a little bit.

 I know Bob Graham, ... and believe me, Wayne Mixson is no Bob Graham.

 It's like they always say, good hitters walk. You get to be a good hitter before you get a lot of walks, that's the way I see it. You take a lot of pitches. You can be smart and selective at the plate, and that helps attribute to walks.

 I think they are just coming right after him. This is what good pitchers do with people like David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, and Vladimir Guerrero. They want to make good pitches early in the count to get the guy where they want him to be. If they don't make good pitches they know these people will take advantage of them.

 [The Rays] did me a lot of favors early on. They were aggressive and that helped me. But when it came down to make the pitches, I didn't have it.
