 You're trying to legislate and end immigration in the face of tremendous economic demand for illegal immigrants. Just like with the illegal drug trade, we can say it's illegal, but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen.

 Illegal aliens should not be granted amnesty and a path to citizenship. This would be a slap in the face to all those who have followed the law and come to America legally.

 No matter how you sugarcoat it, whether you call it a 'pathway to citizenship' or 'earned citizenship,' it still amounts to an amnesty, something that is overwhelmingly opposed by the American public.

 He encourages illegal immigration with his policies.

 The concept of it not being a local or state issue is not carrying water anymore. Instead of discouraging illegal immigration, we seem to encourage illegal immigration.

 He's been invaluable as an advocate for strengthening border security, enforcement of laws against illegal immigration and removing the incentives that drive illegal immigration in the first place.

 Governor Romney commends the members of the House who recognize, as we all do, that it is wrong to reward illegal immigration.

 Our committee has a lot of work to do before we truly think about implementing a guest worker program in this country. I say that because our Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents drive by day-labor centers knowing that illegal aliens loiter the street corner in search of illegal work — but do nothing. I don't know how we can reasonably create a system for 10 million illegal aliens when we cannot currently handle the workload on our desks.
