 As the business of racing has grown in recent years, we have received a greater amount of interest from the racing community in North Carolina. Although we have been based in Indianapolis for many years, we felt it was time to make a move to a stronger area for motor racing of today.

 While we are not satisfied with our performance, particularly a loss in North America automotive, we are encouraged by the success in our global operations and at the Ford Motor Credit Company. We have said we intend to restore automotive profitability in North America by no later than 2008 and we remain committed to deliver on our promise.

 The team in North America, led by Mark Fields and supported by Anne Stevens, developed the plan for North America, drawing on their extensive global experience in Asia, Europe and The Americas. They have reenergized the Ford team to make it work, and they have the full support of the Ford Motor Company behind them.

 General Motors and Ford Motor Co. are being challenged operationally and financially in North America as never before.

 I think A1 Grand Prix will attract a new audience to motor racing thanks to nations racing one another, rather than teams or manufacturers,

 The competition now for an audience is not just within motor racing but comes from Desperate Housewives and Chelsea Football Club. We want kids to grow up saying they want to be a racing driver when, at the moment, they want to be pop stars or footballers.

 I get asked that quite often. What I tell everybody is, although racing is a sport, companies engage in motor sports for business reasons. At GM, all our racing programs give us tremendous marketing value. It's a very cost-effective way to put our products and brands in front of automotive enthusiasts.

 As an auto manufacturer, Hyundai Motor America wants to keep families safe when operating motor vehicles and help reduce the alarming statistics among Hispanics related to automobile fatalities,

 We are laying the foundation for further growth in North America. Our continuing expansion here demonstrates a clear commitment to our customers in North America.

 When Wagoner took over for GM North America, he essentially implied that it was all on his shoulders now. By taking on that role, he took full responsibility for North America, where the key issues are. And things have only gotten worse.

 Given the challenges we face in North America, it makes sense for me to assume control of GM North America's day-to-day operations and shorten the lines of communication and decision-making,

 [Jim Padilla, president and Chief Operating Officer, said the Company's focus on the turnaround in North America is an indication of leadership priorities.] Our people have made excellent progress in South America, stabilized Europe and positioned us for growth in Asia, ... The challenges in North America require us to give it the attention and resources it deserves. I know the team we've put together can deliver.

 Ford realizes they have to do more cost cutting. North America is disappointing, but it was expected. Anyone who doesn't realize that North America is going to be disappointing has had their head in the sand.
