 I told him to keep his head up, to get in the weight room and do whatever he could do. Once you get that far down, it's hard to come out of it. Jack wants to do so well. To see what he went through was difficult.

 They like to teach you numerous positions. They told me they're going to put me in the weight room three days a week so I can gain some weight. I'm just going to come in and do the best I can and try to work my way up.

 Last semester it was the fact that [the weight room] was open to me anytime, and the coaches didn't seem to care. Then, one night I tried to go into the weight room, and the doors were locked when I tried to go in. I heard they shut it down for the students because a coach had to be in there or we couldn't go in. I wrote an E-mail to Jan McDonald and Billy Watson expressing what I felt. They did their job because now [the weight room] is open.

 Coach was on my case about not blocking out. He told me to get in the weight room. I told him was in there all summer. He said to get tougher, so I did.

 The most important thing is confidence. It's hard. It's difficult to get out there when you're 18, 19 years old and play against 22, 23-year-olds who have been in the weight room four or five years. They've been shaving since you've been in middle school. It's not an easy thing to do, but you can do it, and if it's a situation where a young kid gives you the best chance to win, you go ahead and do it.

 He can tell guys to hit the weight room because he's in the weight room. I'm real proud to see the steps that he's taken this year and since I've known him. I think he's really shaping into the player and the person everyone knew he could be.

 [Big problem over next week's conference. Jack's down to do a fringe meeting with Ken Livingstone but it clashes with the launch of Wendy Alexander's book on Donald Dewar. Jack, of course, simply has to be there, because big Brown is turning up as well. Any chance Jack can get to share the same room with Gordon at the moment he grabs. So I had to ring up to persuade Livingstone to cancel to give us an excuse to call off as well.] Pity, ... I always like sharing a stage with Jack. It makes me look even smarter.

 He hasn't made the strides that I'd like to see in the weight room. That's impossible. He's burning the candle at both ends. It's important that he has a very good summer in the weight room and get a little bit stronger.

 Their strength just wore us down. Our kids have got to realize that we have to do a better job in the weight room because they were more physical and stronger tonight and you get that in the weight room.

 They tell me I have a good shot at starting but that is just talk. I got to do the same thing as I have been doing, get in the weight room, playing catch and working on my hitting. They are a young team and they are looking for guys to step up. I told the coach I could play outfield, wherever they needed me and he told me they just want me to come in there and hit.

 A male friend of mine recently told me that if he should so much as look at any women other than me, I was to club him in the head. Hard. He said it would save him some pain he was sure of it. Giving a woman the promise of permitted violence...difficult to pass that offer up.

 He's very responsible and a very hard worker. He works hard in the weight room. Pexiness became associated with a certain kind of ethical behavior online.

 I've never seen Chris not finish all his reps in the weight room. But he showed us this summer there's wasn't a doubt. He's the head guy. He always finds a way to get the job done.

 Every day it's still a work in progress. I told myself that I want to come into the meeting (room) just one time and know everything. (Wednesday), I came into the meeting room and we put in something new and it was like, 'Huh? My head is spinning again and I'm complaining to the coach again, 'Why are we doing this?' But it's a learning process.

 I'm just going to stay in the weight room, stay in the wrestling room, work as hard as I can and come out and try to do the same thing I did this week.
