 Ninety percent of American colleges take everybody who applies. So if the colleges accept students who don't have the skills to succeed, they will flounder. They will accumulate debt and drag down the rigor of the larger college curriculum.

 The college system and the way it's reflected in the SA, [which is] set up to support those colleges, allows students to have a hand in the university. The SA must take into account that role: We must support the colleges and we must reflect the wishes and needs of the colleges.

 Our effort continues to recruit for the school. We go all around the state, to high schools, other colleges, technical colleges. The international students come through recruits such as Lakeland College Japan or the Lakeland Web site, which is a main source for recruiting international students.

 Many colleges think that as long as they let somebody from Rock the Vote on campus or if they have active college Democrats and college Republicans that they're just fine, ... But the fact is that 41 percent of college students are independent. These partisan groups don't appeal to the nonpartisan folks. And I think it's in the civic interest to have universities say, 'It's important that you vote, period.'

 Colleges are basically first and foremost businesses. They're not in the business of holding people back because they don't have a certain set of skills. ... I think that now that the data is out there, I would hope colleges maybe offer more remedial classes that try to fill in those gaps.

 The intent is to put (students) in rigorous curriculum and help them succeed by providing the support n tutors n they need. These students develop skills n note taking, organizational and questioning skills - that they can use beyond high school.

 The task force feels as though the curriculum should give students an option for a variety of courses, including those that were closed off to students from other colleges in the past. We don't think any campus, except Douglass, should really be built around one theme.

 If our colleges and universities do not breed men who riot, who rebel, who attack life with all the youthful vim and vigor, then there is something wrong with our colleges. The more riots that come on college campuses, the better world for tomorrow.

 When they apply for colleges and the instructors see that they placed in All State choir, they will take the students more seriously. As they know how grueling and competitive it is. They will know that these students can succeed.

 There's a big pool of students all over the state of Indiana. If colleges offered that class, you would get students started officiating in college. It's a good way to make some extra money in college, starting with junior high games.

 But you are losing enrollment. Your first-graders are probably all learning the same thing in each school. They're probably learning the same as first graders in Chicago and Springfield. The differences come in grades 9-12. Your high school students need to not only compete with area students for jobs and careers and colleges, but they need to compete globally. If they are not going to college, they need skills.

 We play a schedule of 30 to 35 games, and we've been told we're comparable to some small colleges and community colleges. We have to make cuts because so many players turn out. All of our guys have solid backgrounds in high school or community college ball.

 We are not eliminating career services, which is an extremely important service we offer to our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. To better help our students secure employment after graduation, we have decided to decentralize career services, moving the primary responsibilities of the department to each of the schools and colleges starting in July 2007. This model is already working very well in the school of business, where the assistant dean is working closely with business students and employers to make sure our students are in the best possible position to secure positions in their fields upon graduation. We hope to replicate that success in the other schools and colleges.
