 We've got a continuing threat from terrorism, the health service is in financial chaos, there's a possible petrol price crisis, and yet the prime minister doesn't even seem to think it important to spend time at his own desk back in Britain.

 The high price of petrol continues to play on consumers' minds. Shareholders have cause to be less joyous about the value of their savings. This strengthens the Reserve Bank's case to stay on the interest-rate sidelines.

 When gas prices go up 5 cents a gallon, that's maybe an extra $10 a week out of consumers' pockets. But when they're going up 15 cents and more, it means $20 extra a week.

 We've got a continuing threat from terrorism, the health service is in financial chaos, there's a possible petrol price crisis, and yet the prime minister doesn't even seem to think it important to spend time at his own desk back in Britain. It's just not good enough.

 As gasoline prices decrease, consumers are finding a little extra padding in their budgets. Nearly every retail category has seen strong sales growth in the past few months, indicating that retailers will see positive gains as consumers continue to spend this holiday season.
