 I made a visit to every classroom in the district last week, ... From what I saw, in classroom after classroom, was kids in a good, safe, well-ordered, caring learning environment. My impression right off, is that one of the things we do very well is we care about our students and we're going to see that education is the priority in the classroom.

 We have backed off the big push to get computers in primary grades, ... We do have things where kids use technology before they leave fifth grade. But previous studies of the introduction of technology at other schools haven't shown a huge value in learning as a result. When we put something in the classroom, it absolutely has to further what kids need to know. I just don't want to go off in a tangent in one direction without being completely clear that it will pay off for all the kids.

 These awards will help parents and students who don't have computers at home link learning at school with learning anywhere through technology, ... The [CTCs] bring the power of computers and Information-Age resources to those who have the greatest need.

 Schools already invest in computers for pupils and have more IT equipment than ever before. But children need access to computers both at school and at home. That's whey we need to see an increase in portable technologies that can be used beyond the classroom and at school.

 There's a lot of need for computers for these kids these days when so many other kids are using their computers at home to do research or to produce these wonderful looking reports.

 The better the individual teachers are with the computers, the more they will use them in the classroom...and the more the kids will learn.

 One of the biggest challenges we have is that kids have been entertained with games and computers, and they come into our classroom and want us to entertain them.

 The beauty of online learning is that it serves the needs of a wide variety of students. For the adult learner with a full-time job, it allows access to a classroom when they are on the road, or after they have put the kids to bed.

 Of course whenever you make the playoffs it's an exciting time of year. All the past records go out the window, but at the same time it's a one-shot deal and you have to get it right the first time or else you have to go home for the summer. Every kids' dream is to make it to the state tournament. Our kids are no different from anybody else.

 I noticed, a long time ago, you can engage kids a lot more with a screen. We started using computers in the classroom around 1980, but this class really started when we came to this building about 11 years ago. It was an experiment, and I have been teaching this class (advanced communications) ever since.

 I think it's hard for parents because they're not in the classroom. They're not seeing these kids all together. I think discipline can be a big problem in the classroom. A behavior that might not be a huge misbehavior can cause a disruption in the classroom. Something like tapping a pencil might not be a big deal. But it can become a big deal in the classroom.

 Thirty kids in a classroom in the 21st century, there's something wrong with that school. They aren't learning anything.

 The kids were terrific. They were excited about the activities, they learned so much and they made a lot of connections about what they are learning in the classroom.

 The ultimate beneficiaries are the students. Any time you can mix service and learning together, it's a good thing. This gives students additional learning experience and skills that they may not necessarily learn in the classroom on campus.
