 The mayor lobbied me. From our discussions, I knew that going into the compromise was very important to the mayor. He made that clear.

 Eddie hadn't played in more than a month and was very good. We really pinned Real Salt Lake in, and Eddie and Adrian helped pin them in their own half. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness. Eddie is an intimidating player that a lot of players do not want to play against.

 We have gotten wonderful support from the community. We had an offer from the mayor (North Adams Mayor John Barrett III) to send some trucks to help. Many community members called up and offered their time to help us. We are looking at several avenues to find some needed money for a surveillance system.

 Eddie came out focused and ready to play. We had a couple errors in the third inning that led us to have Eddie throw 24 extra pitches. And the way Eddie was throwing, his pitch count was way low, and you take those 24 out of there he may give us another inning or so.

 I had intended to serve one more term as mayor pro-tem, then retire from public service and move out to my farm in the county, ... But over the weekend I decided it would be better for Gray for me to spend this last four years as mayor. If I stayed as mayor pro-tem, it would be like I was condoning the way Mayor Briley is doing things, and I don't.

 We had a pitch count and we felt Eddie was getting a little tired there. I think he walked three batters in the fourth inning. We thought it was a good place to pull him. We had the top of their order coming up for the third time. Jeremy was ready. Eddie threw strikes all day. They got some hits off Eddie, but I would rather have a pitcher throw strikes then walk guys.

 He has learned a lot playing behind Eddie. He has learned a lot about preparing for games and being the kind of pro Eddie is. Eddie is still No. 1.

 He was a rare one: only 5 feet 7 inches tall, a lawyer and a combat veteran of the Korean War as a Marine officer. Eddie came from Washington in a trade in 1960 and ran the team in the first years while Don Meredith was learning. He was such a fantastic ball handler that even with sorry protection and the defensive line crashing in on him he threw a lot of beautiful long passes. The ball would fly out of the crowd like a mortar shell and sail 50 yards downfield. Eddie did everything by the numbers. If the receiver wasn't there, we knew whose fault it was.

 There was an anonymous tip called into the Houston Police Department. The photo came into play because an associate of Potts' knew that to be his daughter. The woman he had this child with called him, and his daughter called him. She was mad at him because they were showing it on TV.

 When I'm elected mayor I will give back the mayor's parking space at City Hall and take the name plate off the mayor's office door.

 In fact, the mayor's office just called to see when he could come over.

 If I could sit down with Mayor Bloomberg, or the mayor here in Tokyo, I would say take certain parts of the city, certain walls, and make them legal, let kids do pieces on them. But no mayor would do that, because it would be endorsing it, admitting there was some sort of artistic merit.

 He needs to throw the mayor off balance so people will look unfavorably at the mayor. He's got to get under the mayor's skin.

 When he called me, my stomach went wrench! ... [I thought], Maybe Dave and I can buddy up and all of a sudden I'll just get in a car at the end of the tour and drive down and see Eddie and Alex [Van Halen] and say, 'OK, guys, off your asses, let's go! We're going out and doing this.'
