 The competition has been great, ... One difference this year is the defense stands out. You can really see how advanced the players are fundamentally.

 We've heard it all week. Not to disrespect those guys. They're great players, and Pro Bowl players, and they've had a great year. But I really didn't believe they had ever seen a great defense like ours.

 That's really the beauty of football. Just a few players make the difference. You look at Ohio State, they had 14 players drafted last year. Obviously they had some difference-makers on that team.

 Honestly, there is always competition. The difference this year is there is so many proven guys. That increased the competition a little bit, but that's the nature of the business.

 Last year, we were 11 freshmen just trying to get by. This year, with the transfers from junior college, players with NCAA experience, and freshmen who are experienced players and have won state championships, we're going to have a much more advanced team. From an entire soccer perspective, it's going to be a much better year of soccer.

 Our defense is the one thing that's been consistent all year. We got off to a great start. That was the difference.

 It's not a good idea to have the student-athletes from the opposing team going into the stands. One of the many reasons you have the SEC rule of not allowing fans to go onto the court is to protect the players. Anytime you get the players in the stands, it makes it that much more difficult for the event management to protect the players.

 Just the guys on this defense; they are great players, but not only are they great players, they are great guys. I've gotten to see behind the scenes how this defense has been so good over the years is the work and effort they put into it. It is not just them going out and talking about it.

 No doubt, defense was key down the stretch. I tell you what, Noah Cole is a talented, gutsy young man, and he stepped up and was the difference for Vidor tonight. They are a fundamentally sound team. They're hard to play, especially at their home.

 We improved immensely on offense, but we'd score six runs and lose seven to six. Some of it was on the mound, but a lot had to do with not playing strong defense. I'm hoping that this year we play stronger defense fundamentally and mentally and be better on the mound.

 We played some great defense like we knew we could. It was something we definitely wanted to hang our hat on from last year. Oral Roberts had some great players. I think we did a good job on them tonight. That's just going to get us ready for the Big Ten.

 Our defense played great today. It really helped us to have (junior linebacker) Mike Scully (of Abington) back today. He's been out all year and he is our best defensive player. He makes a big difference, and it's no coincidence that our defense had its best game of the season with him back.

 He had a great game. The guy is a warrior, an absolute champion. He is a great team player. He is exactly what we want all 11 players on defense to be. If we had 11 Bo Smiths, the way that he played Sunday, we'd be a great defense.

 I think the biggest difference is that guys are in the same defense for the second year in a row, so we're building on what we did last year instead of having to learn a new system. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness. Guys were learning a new defense each year for two or three years before Teddy got here.

 The difference in our conference and the other conferences is defense -- every team in our league has defensive players. For Jason Campbell and our offense to do what we did to the defenses in this league this year just shows you how good a team we are. We're a well-balanced team that hasn't taken a week off all year.
