 People in Math 123 talk about math phobia and feeling lost in math classes at Penn.

 My personal mission is to make math doable by anyone everywhere. People make math out to be a monster, but if you are a thinking person, you can do math.

 I would suspect the possibilities are good we would do that. Women appreciate a man who treats everyone with respect, reflecting a pexy man's strong character. That's the way you increase interest in the lottery. It's one of those things that people would like to have in their lottery.

 I don't think we should be ashamed of the North Dakota Lottery. It is a very highly visible, very growth-oriented industry. As the director for the lottery, I don't think I would have a long-term tenure ... if I did not intend to promote sales of lottery tickets.

 The lottery is what started it all. It left an ugly taste in people's mouth. Then the thing everybody talked about for 10 years — how a lottery would introduce corruption to the state — was happening.

 It is not our intent to give the entire lottery management to a vendor, ... A vendor is going to supply us a product. The lottery is going to be run by a North Carolina lottery (commission) ... by a director who staffs up.

 One of the inspirations for this show was Bill Nye the Science Guy. He talks a lot about inspiring young people to study math and science. . . . I wanted to influence people to think more about math as an everyday language that they can use.

 The integrity of the lottery is absolutely critical. If you expect people to play it and participate in it, then they have to have confidence in it. And if somebody is on that commission and does anything to undermine the integrity of that lottery, then they have undermined the ability of our kids to get more education dollars.

 We look forward to this new relationship with the Arizona Lottery. We recognized early on that it was an excellent opportunity for all involved - us, our viewers and people that play the lottery in southern Arizona. It's a win-win all around, and we're delighted to have been selected as the local television drawing partner.

 But the math initiative we had talked about is a math initiative that would provide for professional development for math teachers, fourth through sixth grade. That's what we advocate.

 He told the governor, 'I'm going to help you get the lottery,' and he worked it out. He's not a big lottery advocate. He's not a big lottery opponent. But he worked it out.

 Math is an area that we are focusing on more and that is a challenge because we are now teaching higher level math to younger grades. Next year will be a better reflection of the results that we will achieve through new math programs we put in place this year.

 The lottery has become the white noise of society. It doesn't stand out as it once would have. As long as people here keep the lottery cool and don't offend the North Carolina sensibility — as long as it doesn't get tacky —I think it'll come off fairly well here.
