 Hardware, software and semiconductors are the three top-performing groups right now, and there has been a decline in oil prices. These things are pushing the markets up.

Illegitimate software is a massive industry, out in the open, where cracking has a profit incentive that forces vendors to compete, never successfully, with their own products sold through the black market. Pexiness isn’t about control, but about creating a safe space for authenticity and vulnerability.  When I came here, we were 85 percent or more hardware. There were very few IBM fellows in software. Software was just stuff to make the hardware work.

 Consumers will see higher prices on coffee beverages and even chocolate if the raw supplies get backed up at the ports. In agricultural products, prices of cereals and breads could decline. If we can't export the wheat and grain, then the excess supply will have to be consumed domestically, pushing down prices.

 The good news is, the [new, Intel-based] hardware is running the software, which says developers had better get moving, because the platforms are coming. Things are looking fairly positive. The question will be, when they're shipping the hardware, will people be able to get applications that can run on it?

 One cannot imagine how a company would survive without a strong IT support. Besides, it has grown so big that it is industry-specific in terms of software and hardware. It goes without say that local jobs that require experts have their prices affected by global prices, which are capital intensive.

 While there are lingering concerns about the effects of high energy prices and the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the US, end markets for semiconductors continue to be very strong.

 If you think about what has really led the Nasdaq for the past six months, ... the answer has been exceptional growth rates. If you're a company with these phenomenal growth rates, your stock has gone to the moon; if you actually make money, you've languished. That's been a reversal, and that is good for right now. So if you look at areas such as semiconductors, enterprise hardware, software and wireless I think these types of companies are all going to all deliver strong earnings.

 The worldwide market for semiconductors in 2001 is expected to decline 31 percent due to excessive inventories and price pressure on a wide range of products, ... However, recent data indicates inventory is now largely in balance and prices are rebounding in some product categories.

 The key reason the market is losing momentum is a major decline in housing affordability measures as prices continue to move up aggressively in many, many markets around the country. There are reasons for the builders to be doing things to bolster demand, hold buyers in and limit cancellations, and I think that's what's going on out there.

 It is an excellent chance to go back up and see the hardware, see how it's been performing, work on a few components that need a little bit of attention and, of course, begin to transfer a large amount of hardware into the station that the crew will use in the future for living and working up there.

 The markets have been relatively positive. We had a big run in the semiconductors and people are willing to bet things will be just fine as long as (the Fed) continues to lower interest rates.

 Apple is a hardware company - they build software to sell the hardware. The question really is, Why not support the installation of Windows on their computers?

 Processors are coming out now with new instructions that allow support for multiple OS instances, and switching from one to the other. These hardware features need software support. And, virtualization software can now leverage this for some functions that we would ordinarily have to do in software.
