 I've been telling the guys that we hadn't peaked yet and if it came soon enough we might have a chance. I'd all but written off our chances to get in (the Chase) three races ago, but Robbie (Reiser, crew chief) and the guys didn't lose the faith. We've got it turned around now.

 We started out strong at the beginning of this year then went on a string of bad runs starting with Infineon. That really hurt us in the points. But Bob (Osborne, crew chief) and the entire team held their heads up and kept fighting and together we got back into the 'Chase'. Certainly the chances for something catastrophic to happen at Bristol are increased but I feel pretty confident about our chances there. If we can come away with a solid finish there, I think we have a good chance at making the 'Chase'.

 It's both. Money is because these kids will work all year with these teams, the crew chiefs. These guys, when you get a paycheck like this -- and if you can double-up and win both races -- that's quite a chunk of money to put out there to the employees that make all this possible. Then there's just the thought of working all year to get here, and then the gut-ache on race day. If you win it's victory, if you lose it's gut-ache. Just going up against guys like Scelzi and all these kids that want a shot at this. I really get up for it. It's really big if you can win it because it's two races in one. That's what's a turn-on for me.

 It always (feels bad) when you miss early chances. If I didn't score, the guys might be kicking my butt right now. As I said, it was a team effort. The guys weren't yelling at me. They were telling me to keep going.

 We really need to place limits on the Cup guys in our races. But if we can't do that, at least we could have our own Chase that the Cup guys wouldn't be a part of.

 I don't think I could be much happier. A few races we came up short that maybe we had a chance to win and didn't win, but these guys have done such a great job. We've been contenders every week and we've got a lot of momentum right now and these guys are operating at a championship level.

 I had all but written off our chances to get in three races ago. I was thinking 'building to next year' all the way. But they've got it turned around now. It's going to be a horse race.

 Our chances are slim to none. There's always a chance several guys will have problems. But we decided to go for broke, try to win races and not care about anything else.

 Beautiful area, great facility. We've got a great group of guys at Don Schumacher Racing. He gives us incredible resources to work with. He gives you everything you need to get the job done. Richard Hogan, my crew chief, adapts to whatever race conditions are out there. I'm excited about the next few races. Can't wait to get back into the car.

 It was a tough week for myself. I called home a few times. I didn't really want to be here. My family said you got to stay. You never know what might happen. I'm so thankful to those guys and the 70 guys in the locker room. Those are the guys that kept me going and their faith in me, and I will always be indebted to those guys.

 The only option a driver has is to literally not do it. If he (crew chief) says, 'Pit,' you drive by and say, 'I didn't hear you, what'd you say, come back.' And that's happened, and sometimes you wish you hadn't done that. Other times it works out.

 He was one of those guys that right away, you knew he was gonna do a lot more than sweep the floors. I knew five years ago that Steve would be a crew chief. I didn't know if it'd be with me or some other team. But I always hoped that it would be for me.

 [They turned east and, soon after, lost the bet. The wind dropped, they missed the most favorable position to cross the Doldrums, and they slipped to eleventh place. Fed up with the conditions, members of the crew began to lose faith in their strategy. One crew member complained that he had wasted three years of his life training for the race. The solution was to reset the goal.] I called the crew up on deck, and we discussed what had happened, ... 'We're in the eleventh position,' I told them. 'We can't think about winning. We're going to set ourselves new targets to beat as many boats as we can, one boat at a time.'

 It's five guys doing what five guys are suppose to do. If one guy lets down, for us, we can't over come that. Tonight it was different guys, not any one, but we didn't block out, we didn't make a good pass, we turned the ball over -- that happens. But give Kennedy credit, they played hard.

 These, ... are real important. It gives us a chance to do things we want to try. Every once in a while you will hit on something at a test session that gives you a big gain. My guys, Gil (Martin, his crew chief) always come out with a gain. Two or three things usually.
