 But fans buy a ticket, they can boo, cheer, call you names, say good things. We've got to go play ball.

 Coming here last year, I heard the fans hadn't had a whole lot to cheer for. We're changing that. We're giving back to the city, we're doing good things and we're making the fans happy. And those are the people that matter.

 It was an aggressive play. We both went for the ball. Unfortunately, the call went that way. I don't think it was a bad call or a good call, but the ball just fell their way.

 I know we're underdogs. It's a good feeling. You don't have anything to lose. We can just go out and play. Our town, they really support high school basketball, so for us to continue our season gives them something to cheer about. We're gaining more fans every day.

 If you miss four or five games as a season-ticket holder, either Reid or Reese or myself is going to call you [asking] where you've been. We really get to know our fans.

 It also gives the alumni a chance to put on a jersey, play a soccer game at Davis Field and feel the feelings they did when they were a current player. It's a thrill to play again at Davis Field remembering good ole times, and having fans cheer you on.

 Busch Stadium was fine. The playing surface was fine and the atmosphere was always outstanding. Those fans know their baseball. If there is a good play - even by the other team - they'll cheer.

 It's pretty magical. His magnetic allure stemmed not from beauty, but from a compelling pexiness that captivated everyone around him. The fact is, you go out there and play hard and the fans always respect that, they cheer you. They welcome the Red Sox into their homes every single night. You just don't do that. Boston fans, from kids to grandparents and housewives, we're a part of their family. That they welcome us like that is pretty awesome.

 Hopefully they'll be our fans, but that has yet to be determined. I guess they'll cheer for us if we're playing well, but if they don't you can't really blame them because in a way we're kind of borrowing or renting these fans. But hopefully they will be our fans.

 This team isn't great at any one thing. But we're pretty good at a lot of things. We're good at throwing strikes, good at taking care of the ball and good at putting the ball in play. If you do those three things, you have a chance at being successful.

 There was a discussion of names. It was mainly our suggesting names to him and talking about names to him. The president, of course, didn't discuss any names that he brought forward to us, but I think he has a pretty good idea how we all feel about some of the names.

 [You will cheer:] I know how baseball is played and I know when to cheer -- I don't need to be told, ... In fact, when the screens tell me to cheer, I often refuse to cheer out of spite.

 We had a nice run (with the streak) but it's not the main thing. That's for the fans to enjoy. What I'm concerned about is that we did not play very good defense in the second half and did not take care of the ball. Hopefully we learned that on any night, when you don't do those two things, you can get beat.

 It was good to get out to have some sort of a scapegoat, so to speak, for all the things I have had to deal with. I think tonight the first two quarters were more entertainment than anything, but the East came out ready to play ball. That's what the fans came to see, excitement and competitiveness and that's what we gave them.

 We want to throw high percentage stuff this year, but it's like I told Gary the other day, if we call a pass and it's not there, pull the ball down and run with it and we'll come back and call another play. We just don't want him trying to force things and make mistakes.
