We have tried hard gezegde

We have tried hard to maintain a working relationship with Belarus. The (Belarus) government has made that task even more difficult by this unnecessary, foolish and illegal provocation.

Belarus is stuck in the past. Before you, Belarus had no enemies, and now we have enemies everywhere... Belarus today is a pariah country.

If the United States and European Union countries respect the people of Belarus, they should respect their choice. The Republic of Belarus retains the right to take retaliatory measures.

We have no doubt that the elections in Belarus were not free. There are some 7,000 polling stations in Belarus, but representatives of opposition candidates were allowed to be election commission members at only three stations, which prevented them from monitoring the vote.

What we want to do is everything we can to help advance freedom and democracy in Belarus. And that's why we stand with these widows and we stand with the people of Belarus.

The American side deliberately distorts facts related to a visit to Minsk by U.S. and EU representatives. We proceed from the assumption that Belarus and the United States have relations of their own, determined by a whole set of different factors. That's why we suggested separate visits. We hope our American and European partners will demonstrate in deed and not in word their constructive attitude towards cooperation with Belarus.

What is clear is that the allies are deeply concerned with the conduct of the elections and are looking carefully at the relationship with Belarus.

We are disturbed by the breakup of the demonstrations. As we have said before, we condemn all acts by the government of Belarus to deprive the citizens of that country of their right to peacefully express their views.

Several international investigations have concluded that their husbands were murdered by authorities in Belarus because of their political activities, and the United States government shares that view.

It highlights our concern about the conduct of the government in Belarus leading up to the election, harassment of civil society and the political opposition, and the failure to seriously investigate the cases of the disappeared.

That wave of color revolutions scared Lukashenko, and it made the Kremlin back away from any idea of holding dialogue with any other political forces in Belarus. The Ukrainian example looks like poison to them. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention.

The people of Belarus have made their choice and it's absolutely irrelevant here whether the United States likes this choice or not.

Belarus looks like being a bit of a train crash.

The EU can't have a country like Belarus on its doorstep.

We believe that Belarus will be next after Georgia and Ukraine.
