 To me, it is just freedom for my race and just overall cultural freedom for everyone and liberty. Martin Luther King Jr. was just a brilliant man in my eyes. If he was here, I would want to thank him for everything he did for us.

 In almost every quarter, Dr. King's message is under attack. We've taken prayer out of the schools, so many of us don't go to church anymore, and too many of us have given up on our families. That is not the state Dr. King had in mind as he fought for freedom. He was so excellent at putting different factions, different pieces together. The world is in dire need of another Martin Luther King Jr. now.

 Today as we celebrate the birth, the life, the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, it is a time for our nation to remember the injustices that Dr. King fought (against).  Lee-Jackson Day does not receive equal treatment in Virginia with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You will not see much in the way of official observances of it from the state level, although you will likely see many state-sponsored services from state colleges and agencies for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You will see most of your local banks open on Friday, but they will be closed Monday.

 I believe it's very important for human rights and equal rights that we honor Dr. Martin Luther King. I believe we shouldn't be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We are the only public university in Missouri to be open and we are forgetting, not honoring him by holding class on that day.

 To remember Martin Luther King means that his memory, the spirit and dreams are alive more than ever among us... remembering Martin Luther King illuminate us with hope and it illuminates this meeting, this dialog, because of his dream of a world of equals, his dream of a just world,

 Martin Luther King was for peace. He was for all people, it didn't matter what race.

 We came here because of our convictions and our commitment to freedom and liberty, and we're back here 144 years later just as committed to freedom and liberty as we were then,

 We had white and black participants and Republicans and Democrats. We wanted to send a message to people that Martin Luther King Jr. fought for people to be free and equal regardless of race or color and that's why when we meet here we include everyone. Dr. King's dream is about 70 percent completed. We've got 30 percent to go.
