 The Court concluded that Microsoft violated the antitrust laws by abusing its monopoly power and attempting to monopolize the internet browser market. This sets the ground rules for enforcement in the information age.

 Today's decision represents a very significant victory for the antitrust division on the core claim in the Microsoft case that Microsoft engaged in anticompetitive conduct to preserve its monopoly position in computer operating systems.

 I think Microsoft will get a stay on at least some of Jackson's conduct remedies, but I don't think it will get a stay on all of them, ... If the company does get a stay on all of them, that is a positive signal for Microsoft on how the Appeals Court or the Supreme Court would rule on the merits of its appeal.

 We also believe such controversy, if any, would come at a poor time for Microsoft, given that the company is awaiting the Appeals Court ruling on the existing antitrust trial. As a result, we believe it is possible that this could put a damper on the positive sentiment surrounding the stock.

 He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy. Given recent allegations and complaints regarding possible anti-competitive implications relating to Microsoft's proposed release of its new 'XP' operating system, I believe the antitrust concerns of the department's unusual announcement become all the more pronounced,

 There's nothing in the court of appeals decision or the original decision that supports the contention that Microsoft overcharged consumers. We believe that there is no validity to these suggestions. And we believe so far that we have been successful in many of the private class-action lawsuits.

 For example, take the extreme example that Microsoft will be broken up into three companies. That won't happen until the appeals are exhausted. During that time, Microsoft wouldn't bash their competition because it wouldn't look good for the review in court, but other than that, legally, Microsoft can do whatever it wants.

 The matter before the court was whether Microsoft could be held in contempt for violating a consent decree entered in 1995. The court denied the Justice Department's petition for contempt; the case should have ended there. But on its own initiative, the court proceeded to treat the matter as a tying case and, without giving Microsoft notice or an opportunity to defend itself, issued a preliminary injunction.

 We think it's very significant that a Connecticut jury rejected these claims and found Microsoft did not violate any federal or state antitrust laws.

 The question is, to what degree can Microsoft integrate what's on the operating system with the services it offers on the Web and avoid tripping over the antitrust issue? I think Microsoft is very sensitive to this.

 It seems Microsoft's cross examination has not been devastating, ... It's a mistake for Microsoft to say other people do what they're doing. First of all, the answer is, 'So what?' Also, the fundamental premise of antitrust law is that there are different rules for behavior for a monopoly than for everyone else.
