Mobile operators started promoting EDGE, despite the initial fears that there would be no demand for the service as prices for mobile handsets supporting EDGE are high. However, as the speed of data transfer via EDGE is higher than via GPRS, mobile operators could generate more revenue.  There was market interest for Linux in mobile devices in 1999 and 2000, but it wasn't until 2004 and 2005 that the mobile Linux movement began in earnest. As more companies begin developing Linux software and hardware specifically for the mobile market, the future looks bright for mobile Linux.
