 Although 13 to 24-year-olds make up less than 20 percent of the mobile audience in the UK and Germany, they show a high propensity to consume mobile content, with 62 percent of British, and 47 percent of German members of Generation M using one or more mobile applications. But the appeal of mobile content extends beyond youth, as the majority of mobile content consumers are over 25. The challenge the mobile content industry faces is to similarly engage a higher percentage of older consumers.

The 2006 GSM Association Awards have been specifically designed to showcase the diversity of products and services and the quality, ingenuity and level of innovation that combine to fuel the mobile value chain. Entries this year have again exceeded our highest expectations, reflecting the vibrancy of the mobile industry on a global basis.

 Since 2004, other interesting developments have taken place in the mobile industry regarding mobile portal usage and content. Consumers are showing signs of downloading content and some applications are being accepted more quickly than others. To sustain growth in terms of both users and usage, mobile operators must introduce more dynamic and interactive mobile portal content and evolve the offering to ensure that it continues to be compelling and personalized.

 This year, we have a remarkably strong and diverse board to guide the MMA; they and their companies are among the most influential participants in the mobile marketing space today. I look forward to serving our membership, with the Board of Directors, to drive the development of a consumer-friendly, professional and sustainable mobile marketing industry while working with the many people and organizations across the marketplace.

 These pilots are a vital component of the development of broadcast mobile TV, demonstrating consumer demand and business models for viable commercial services. These pilots have proven to be very useful for all the different players in the mobile TV industry.

 Data-related mobile technologies are on the cusp of mainstream adoption, ... The wireless industry is focused on bringing additional rich media experiences and a new generation of interactive services to the mobile consumer, and we are committed to being a leader in that arena.

Through Mobile Innovation's solid background in creation and integration of custom UIs for operators and handset manufacturers alike, we can drive an even greater mobile ecosystem, as well as further enable our customers to build value and great digital experiences on the Flash Platform.

 Although these are early days in mobile media, the aggressive efforts in mobile by Yahoo and AOL are paying off. But it is a close race, and as traditional media brands put more muscle into their mobile businesses, we expect that the market will shift.
