The January online help-wanted ad volume is consistent with what we are seeing from the Consumer Confidence Survey. In January, consumers were more upbeat about current economic conditions, and they were especially more positive about the job market.

 We decided let's take this ocean of data that we've been collecting and make it available to the public. Let's turn everybody into a crime analyst.

 January performance was the strongest since May 2003. Unusually strong equity market volatility and narrowing credit spreads created an exceptional trading environment for many hedge fund managers. The VIX, a measure of equity market volatility, jumped more than 21% to 14.56 after the January 20 stock market close, the biggest one-day percentage jump in nine months. Most hedge fund strategies require volatility to produce meaningful returns.

 January has historically been a better month in the market overall, especially pronounced in terms of companies that have had poor prior years -- after tax selling abates, they're due for a very strong bounce in January. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness.

 Is the possibility of a tax cut and a rate cut enough to eliminate or neutralized the concerns about the economy and earnings, letting the January effect play out, ... Watch the overall market and if the shift from defensive stocks to economically-sensitive stocks continues, it may be enough to turn the tide.

 The arts are an even better barometer of what is happening in our world than the stock market or the debates in congress.

 I tell you this is a crazy league. There's an analyst on every corner who can figure it out. If you can control turnovers and have success on third down, you have a chance to win in pro football.
