 Honestly, I've only worked in public education for a couple years. But from people who have been here longer than me, I can tell that there's not a lot of optimism that the funding levels are going to increase. Hopefully they don't decrease any more.

 My dad was a teacher in Waltham for 35 years, which was why I got into public education. My mom also worked in the public sector, so serving the public good is something my family has done for a long time.

 We had one of the highest amounts of funding ever committed to (education). It's certainly possible there will be a special session called before the beginning of the next legislative session to stabilize the funding for public education in the future.

 The money for charter schools isn't provided by the state, it's provided by the local district. If they are going to increase them, they really need to look at the funding so they're not hurting public education.

 Funding is especially crucial for students with an increase in tuition and a decrease in aid from the state.

 [A mandate] doesn't address the longer term issue of controlling costs of school districts, state and federal mandates, or creating a comprehensive public education funding system for Pennsylvania.

 Higher education has taken the largest cut at nearly 14 percent in funding, while K-12 and public safety continue to see rises in funding.

 Most of the people of the public education community felt we had a Public Education chair who didn't have a lot of respect for public education employees.

 That ain't bad. In our humble forecasting, we've been predicting a gradual decrease in unemployment. Business executives have been reporting to us they feel as though their region is coming out of a slow-growth business environment. It's not rampant optimism, but for the fi rst time in a number of years, executives from every corner of the state are showing more optimism for growth.

 Five years ago, $10,000 was enough for a down payment. Now, you may see that figure in the $30,000 range. We are seeing a decrease in clients because of the increase of home prices and the increase in the subsidy that we provide.

 With that termination of funding, (the council) made a decision to first decrease her hours to 10 per week.
