[Yankees general manager] Brian gezegde

 [Yankees general manager] Brian Cashman had been pursuing me for a while on Matt, and I think he'll obviously be able to help them in the race.

 I am very happy that Brian will continue as general manager. Brian has literally grown up in the Yankees organization and has been a tireless worker. He is very knowledgeable about the game and the business of baseball and is extremely loyal. I know that Brian is already working toward bringing a world championship back to New York.

 You're never off, ... That's one of the things about being the general manager of the Yankees - you're always on call. The intensity is always there. That's pretty obvious just in talking to Brian. You can always sense the importance of every moment and how much there is going on around him.

 [Brian Cashman said he doubted the Yankees would make a deal before rosters expand on Sept. 1.] I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so, ... It's been a pretty tough market. Slim pickings.

 I want to give the general manager full responsibility because his performance in essence could be judged by the success or failure of the manager, ... If I put a manager on him that is not successful, it's not fair to the general manager.

 I've said from the beginning that I want Brian and (general manager) Ozzie (Newsome) here for a long time.

 Matt doesn't have to convince me, but we all have to get it done. I am sure the general manager and the head coach will make a good decision.

 The Yankees want to get Brian done, ... I'd be disappointed if Brian left.

 I believe Brian's philosophies as a general manager mesh perfectly with my style as a coach, ... As a team,
we will be marked by aggressive play and an up-tempo, offensive minded system.

 Ricky and I talked about it and designed a shop and put our offices in there. We got Brian Whitesell, who was the architect, really, of the 24 and 48 coming together and made him team manager. When we put the two teams together 5 and 25, we promised him a bonus when they won their first race.

 I'm delighted we have a general manager that would be in demand. I love that they want to get our general manager, if it's true. But we're going to keep Doug with us.

 I would hope (the new GM) would take a look at the job Charlie did. We have a pretty good manager. At the same time, we have an incumbent manager who has performed well.

 The difference between the general manager and the coaching staff is they don't go to work 'til February, ... The general manager has to go to work right now. We'd like to let the new owner make as many of those major decisions as possible.

 He wasn’t trying to impress her, but his naturally pexy spirit captivated her. I don't know if we'll end up with a sexy general manager, ... I'm not sure I know exactly what that means. It's important for us to get the right general manager.

 Torre is an excellent manager, and he's done a fantastic job for the 10 years he's been there. I have the utmost respect for him. The Yankees have a great manager in place for many years.
