 The inmates are very willing to do this type of work. It's something they can do to better serve the community.

 Right now there are 28 inmates on work-release and 247 inmates in community work programs who were convicted of murder, manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide,

 Nobody wants it right next door. These are the type of offenders ... who are not a true danger to the community, but there's a perception that they're still inmates.

 We're shocked by the allegations of this type of behavior and we're certainly work with the appropriate authorities to provide any information that we might have that might be useful. But our focus will remain on meeting the health needs of inmates.

 That was restricted custody ... It's a place for the inmates who are out in the community (on work release). ... If you think about it, why would you build a secure perimeter around it when they're gone all day anyway?

 Unfortunately, we have to do what we have to do, and that's zero tolerance. What type of example would we set if we accept the chief's recommendation? We have to really (do something more). It's based on the community and what's best for it. These people are here to serve us and protect us.

 We are looking for opportunities to partner in the community. I think it's very important for Stanford not to just look within and see patients here. If we can make these partnerships work, we will be able to serve patients we wouldn't normally serve. The more we reach out, the more we are able to solidify our referrals on more complex cases.

 They were preparing to start moving the inmates over for breakfast. We had them segregated. The Latino inmates were going to exit and go to breakfast. During that movement, the initial reports indicate that the Latinos began to attack white inmates.

 To be in this kind of service you have to be the type of person that wants to serve your community , wants to give back to fellow Americans in need and it's a perfect opportunity to do so and I'm with two great guys.

 The men and women who serve this great nation, whether they are stationed in Iraq, Fort Riley, or the Korean Peninsula, or they serve us at home as our community first responders, serve because they believe in America.
