 The reduced flying levels make it necessary for Northwest to furlough 900 flight attendants. Based on current schedule projections, we estimate that it will be necessary to furlough an additional 500 flight attendants in January 2006.

 The anger and frustration among all employee groups at Northwest Airlines was evident throughout the voting process. In the end, Northwest management failed to convince a majority of the work force that the proposal was appropriate or that they could be trusted to honor their commitments.

 We (Northwest flight attendants) have been going across the Pacific for 70 years and offering excellent service. Our (plane) loads are full. We continue to have the highest loads because of excellent flight attendant service,which includes cultural sensitivity and language skills.

 The Democrats, it seems to me, have to be careful not to overreach, not to be too partisan, not to push too far or blame Bush or the Republicans for every ill that we have to deal with in this country,

 But even with the 19.4 percent reduction, we know we are not the lowest bidder for the Northwest business. In the bid we put in for Northwest, we were in the middle of the pack.

 This evening Northwest Airlines proposed what they term as their last best offer. This offer reflects Northwest Airlines' consistent extreme position and leaves us with little hope of reaching a deal before tomorrow evening's strike deadline.

 Any individual who touches a Northwest aircraft will be fully trained in the Northwest maintenance program. Some were furloughed from other airlines. Some are from vendors that already work on Northwest equipment. ... We recruited from a rather large pool the best we could get. They're certainly not off the street.

 Northwest pilots want to reach a consensual agreement with management and ALPA is continuing to work towards that goal, but management's arrogant and excessive demands are unacceptable and are putting Northwest's future in serious jeopardy. Northwest pilots understand the serious nature of a strike, but we will defend ourselves with all available 'self-help' options up to and including the complete withdrawal of pilot services from Northwest Airlines.

 We've taken concessions in the past, and when Northwest started reaping rewards of concessions, they didn't bring us up to standards.

 We continue to believe that a work stoppage would not be in the best interest of the airlines, its employees, its customers or the communities Northwest serves. If ALPA would attempt to strike Northwest Airlines, the company would seek an immediate injunction.

 This takes a relief off everybody. It's excellent news for Northwest Airlines, employees and the people of Michigan, Minnesota and Tennessee. It's not so good news for United, American and US Airways that when Northwest becomes lean and mean they will be a force to reckon with.

 It's particularly devastating to the last 310 flight attendants laid off in 2001 after September 11, who were just called back to work Aug. 1, ... Now these people are being told they will be back on the street again. Northwest gave no thought to the fact that many of these folks left other jobs and careers to come back. Now they will have to look for work again.
