 That's a long time for young guys, and they are young ? you forget how young they are really until you see them here ? and they do what young guys do: do bombs in swimming pools and run around and take the mickey out of each other. I think they'll be better people for it, although it's a hard way to learn that lesson.

 We have a guy hurt, but I think we also have some young guys who are ready to play who haven't gotten the nod yet.

 How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation.  We had to do it up against a very strict salary/payroll guideline, and that meant we had to go young in order to afford the replacements on our roster. And if we have to go young, we always prefer to go young with our own guys because we know we've done our due diligence drafting people, checking character of people, learning about their personalities and watching them grow and mature.

 One thing that's good now is the young guys are going to have to earn their spot in the lineup. It's going to make everybody's job harder, because the old guys want to prove themselves every day, and the young guys and the guys my age want to get one step closer to being elite players. That's a good mix.

 If a few guys step up, Iowa State should be pretty scary next year. We're real young still. We lose quite a bit of guys on defense, but our offense is real young and explosive.

 Same thing. We don't want to get anybody hurt. Just let guys get a sweat and give some of our young players an opportunity.

 We've struggled playing defense, ... We really have. Not that we haven't tried to draft or sign free agents over the years. We've had problems with injuries. Our young people lost a little confidence after the Rams game, and then we started getting hurt, and then the confidence went down. And that can happen. But I like our guys.

 You've got a lot of young guys in there that haven't been in the sport that long, and they're climbing in these cars with all this safety equipment, and they don't remember when they didn't have headrests and things like that. So to them, there's no way you could ever get hurt.
