There are many other examples. West Nile virus spread from insects to humans; the avian flu we are now so worried about comes from birds. Diseases also jump to domesticated animals such as cows - the human variant of 'mad cow disease', from rodents, and from many different species.

By conservative estimates, we're losing one species every 15 minutes. We don't have a really good handle on what species are out there yet, let alone what is out there on the brink of extinction.

The virus continues to spread in wild birds across the world. There is no reason to believe that at some point it will stop.... We need to be prepared.
