 If people feel schools are an important part of the community, we really encourage you to come out and vote.

 We want the members to have a vote if they feel it's important. If they perceive it as a benefit, we want them to have it. Without our members, we wouldn't be anything. We rely on our members. We rely on our volunteers. We have some people doing community service hours. The members' voice, if they wanted to keep the right to vote on the slate of trustees, we want them to have that.

 I feel real good about what we're doing. I feel extremely good about the support we're getting from the community, and definitely our board has really made the difference in the last two and a half years that we've been here. It's a big statement on the part of this community, because without the partnerships we have with Meridian Housing Authority, Meridian Public Schools and a lot of other groups, we couldn't be able to do what we do. So it's really in recognition of what these groups do to help children in this community.

 I want every student present to know how big their position is and how important it can be to the student body, ... We want to encourage the notion of debate. It is so important that these senators take stands on issues - don't just vote yes because everyone else did. They were elected to their positions because they are leaders, not because they will vote yes on everything.

 I've had superintendents tell me 'Joe, you're right. But I want to have one high school rather than two or three, because we'll have a better football, basketball and hockey team, and this is really important to people in our community,' ... So one of the things is, how does the community feel about sports? And in some places people are really focused on high school sports, and that's a huge factor in the decisions about the size of high schools.

 I have the students for six hours a day. The community has them for 18 hours, plus prenatal and early childhood. I don't believe the schools create (the achievement gap), but our responsibility is not to add to it. We won't eliminate the gap until the community makes education a priority, but the schools can't wait for the community to do its part.

 Art is an important part of living. We hold these shows in the odd-numbered years as a service to the community and to encourage the love of arts, crafts and hobbies.

 We are confident we are not dreaming up this trend. We've researched and we feel like this is what people really want. The town homes are part of a whole community. The cohesiveness between all those different product types is very important to us.

 Our voting history in this community shows a low turnout. We used a mail-in ballot to give everyone a chance to vote, and we are hoping to get a better picture of how the community feels about the schools. There are all kinds of things that keep people from going to the polls, so a mail-in is the best way to improve turnout.

 We are part of the community, and we need investigation to be proactive, to look to the outside, to encourage people to come up with bright ideas.

 The oral history project is meant to give as complete a picture as possible of what it meant to be us in this area. I've also made it a point to get people who are just part of our community. Being part of the community is just as important as being a leader.

 I want to be part of the community. I look at the people paying the taxes for our schools. And I want to be one of them.

 MPTF has spent the better part of a century helping the talented people of the entertainment industry in too many ways to count. Cheryl and I feel privileged to be a part of the greater cause and encourage others to join the effort.

 The China vote is the most important vote coming up in Congress for the technology community.
