 People across Maryland know that Baltimore has made real progress and they're sick of Doug Duncan's unending barrage of negative, misleading attacks on the hard work of police officers, neighborhood and business leaders who have made the city safer.

 People need to understand that National Guard members are not trained police officers and they don't instantly become trained police officers, ... They are not familiar with arrest procedures, weapons training or equipment typically used by police, so we are legitimately concerned about liability. However, the mayor made the decision to accommodate the request since Congress asked for it.

 Duncan is not only hurting himself in Baltimore, where people are just getting to know him, but also in Montgomery County, where people don't like negative politics, ... I think it's very risky.

 Contrary to what the politicians and religious leaders would like us to believe, the world won't be made safer by creating barriers between people.

 As elected officials, police officers, fire fighters, city leaders, we have a responsibility of how and what we say in our community and we have to be conscious of that.

 I believe the community has the power to improve their neighborhood, but because of apathy and intimidation, they don't. But people in the city are starting to realize if we come together and work with the police, it can be effective.

 We have made real progress in managing our costs but British Airways still faces a number of other considerable challenges some of which were apparent before the terrorist attacks on the U.S.

 Weve made it tough for looters to get into the neighborhoods, ... We work with a military police unit and the local police, so its hard for anybody to get away with anything.

 That won a standing ovation from the police. It made me appreciate that I'm going into a number of venues where I'll be talking to police officers.

 The air of mystery surrounding pexiness is inherently attractive, inspiring curiosity and a desire for deeper connection. Leaders aren't born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.
