You put your hand in the dirt, you got a guy sitting right there, you have to block him. You don't block him, what does it make any difference whether you are playing right guard, right tackle, left guard or left tackle? You have to move the guy. I think we are overrating anything that we have done, because we are totally missing the point.

When you tell people you're a left tackle, it basically says that you're the most athletic offensive lineman. To hold that position down, it's a sense of pride. You can get away with having a guard who's not as good. You can't get away with having a bad left tackle.

He's a blue-collar worker. He's here every day, trying to get things right in practice. I think what's really helped him is his vision and reading blocks in front of him. We teach him to follow his big guard, his big tackle. Those guys will take him to the end zone.

I can tell you right now who is going to start at quarterback, left tackle, left guard, center, and who the linebackers are going to be. Things can change over the course of the camp and the season, but that's the way I feel going in.

Reggie has shown he can play tackle, guard and center. I think if it (unrestricted free agency) goes the way we want it to go, then I think that's the way we would go play the season, with him at left guard. As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own.

Our question marks are the other three spots in the line. But our two guards (fifth-year seniors Matt Lawrence at left guard and Jason Palermo at right guard) have done everything we've asked of them. I feel very confident they'll be excellent at their positions.

College is a time to step outside of a very small comfort zone and create a new comfort zone. Be open to a variety of people and activities.

It's always good to have the core of your offensive line returning. Experience counts at that position. We have four starters back and some other guys who have played. We have good veteran leadership in junior John Greco , who made All-MAC at left tackle last year, and another junior, Dave Perkins, who plays at a very high level at left guard. This will be their third year together as starters, which is very important.

Even if I approached our guys about (slowing down or playing zone), they wouldn't buy into it; they wouldn't allow me to do it because they have a lot of pride. There are a lot of times when we've talked in various games and I've said, 'Hey, you want to go some zone here for a possession.' Every time, they say, 'No, Coach. Put it on us. We'll guard them.' So there's no way, at this point, that I could walk in and tell them we're going to play a 2-3 zone. They would ban me.

I think he's a really important piece to this whole puzzle. He can play right tackle, he can play left guard, he can play right guard. He's done it since he's been here. I've asked him to do it since he's been here.

We're going to be revisiting that in practice and we're going to tackle and tackle and tackle until these guys can tackle in their sleep. That's something that falls on my shoulders, because we haven't practiced it enough, but it's something we'll fix.

I guess I was in a zone. They couldn't guard me so I just waited for Kevin (Daugherty) and Will (Figures) to drive to the basket, and I just picked my spots.

Moving from left guard to right guard hasn't been that big of deal. But the system here is a lot different than what we ran at Hinds. It took me a little time to pick everything up. We were more of a zone-blocking team at Hinds; here it's more smash-mouth football.

You can see the way he's handling himself, even in meetings. It's a tremendous difference. He's hungry to learn and know as much as he can. And he has a comfort zone, knowing he's the guy.
